George Clooney Calls For Dorchester Hotels Boycott Over Brunei's Sharia Law Stoning Of Gays + Adulterers

George Clooney has extended his call for a boycott of Hollywood’s Beverly Hills Hotel and Bel-Air Hotel to include all world’famous hotels owned by the Sultan of Brunei, over imposition of Sharia law and death by stoning for homosexual activity and adultery.

George Clooney has extended his call for a boycott of Hollywood’s Beverly Hills Hotel and Bel-Air Hotel to include all world’famous hotels owned by the Sultan of Brunei, over imposition of Sharia law and death by stoning for homosexual activity and adultery.

The Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah announced in 2014 that he was installing Sharia law in his tiny South Asian nation. A general list of ‘criminal behavior’ under Sharia law includes absence from Friday prayer services; becoming pregnant out of wedlock; wearing indecent clothing, and for women, refusal to wear a hijab; employing a non-Muslim baby sitter; the use of the word “Allah” by Christians and the discussion of faith by any non-Muslims; publicly eating or drinking during Ramadan; theft; homosexuality; and adultery. Punishment includes fines, jail, amputation of limbs, public flogging and death by stoning.

In May 2014, celebrities including Jay Leno, Ellen DeGeneres, Sharon Osbourne, Richard Branson and Clive Davis united in a boycott against the world-famous Beverly Hills Hotel, one of multiple luxury hotels held by the Brunei Investment Agency under the umbrella of Dorchester Collection. The Brunei Investment Agency is owned by Sultan Hassanai Bolkiah, whose personal wealth is estimated at $20 billion, writes Forbes.

Clooney reminds us that the 5th richest nation in the world hasn’t had an election since 1962. The rollout of Brunei’s Sharia death penalty for homosexuality and adultery will be implemented on April 3, prompting George Clooney to call for a boycott of these Dorchester Hotels:

  • The Dorchester, London

  • 45 Park Lane, London

  • Coworth Park, UK

  • The Beverly Hills Hotel, Beverly Hills

  • Hotel Bel-Air, Los Angeles

  • Le Meurice, Paris

  • Hotel Plaza Athenee, Paris

  • Hotel Eden, Rome

  • Hotel Principe di Savoia, Milan

"Every single time we stay at or take meetings at or dine at any of these nine hotels we are putting money directly into the pockets of men who choose to stone and whip to death their own citizens," said Clooney.

According to Mintel, research shows that 76% of U.S. consumers will refuse to support a company with beliefs different from their own, and 56% will stop buying from brands they believe to be unethical.

Clooney’s Friday Deadline post addressed the 2014 boycott of the world-famous LA hotels, writing “like all good intentions when the white heat of outrage moves on to the hundred other reasons to be outraged, the focus dies down and slowly these hotels get back to the business of business. And the Brunei Investment Agency counts on that. “

We can expect news of the boycott to increase with new voices being added. Elton John tweeted Sunday morning “I commend my friend, #GeorgeClooney, for taking a stand against the anti-gay discrimination and bigotry taking place in the nation of #Brunei -- a place where gay people are brutalized, or worse -- by boycotting the Sultan’s hotels,"

“Theory states that Allah’s law is cruel and unfair,” said Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, “but Allah himself has said that his law is indeed fair.”

In revolutionary set of research findings about “big gods” released in March 2019, scientists argue that complex societies gave rise to the spiritual existence of “big gods’, and not the opposite as, hard-linger Jews, Christians, Muslims and other world religions have argued. The new research comes to mind reading the quote about Allah by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

'Pose' Star Billy Porter Wows In Christian Siriano Tuxedo Gown On 2019 Oscars Red Carpet

‘Pose’ star Billy Porter grabbed the limelight on the 91st Academy Awards red carpet, wearing a stunning velvet tuxedo gown by Christian Siriano. The actor’s attire featured a nipped jacket top and ball-gown skirt, accessorized with a statement diamong ring and oversized bow tie.

"My goal is to be a walking piece of political art every time I show up," Porter told Vogue. "To challenge expectations. What is masculinity? What does that mean? Women show up every day in pants, but the minute a man wears a dress, the seas part."

Porter posed on the red carpet with his long-time friend and husband Adam Smith. The actor, who won a Tony for Best Lead Actor in a Musical and a Grammy in 2013 for his role as Lola in ‘Kinky Boots’ married Smith in January 2017. People narrated the delightful story of how Porter proposed to Smith, after knowing him for almost a decade.

In one of the shorter high-profile engagements of only 16 days, Porter and Smith decided they wanted to wed before President-elect Donald Trump assumed the presidency. “We felt like, with everything that we’re gonna have to fight for coming up, the unknown that we’re going into, we want to be married doing that,” says Porter, who exchanged vows with Smith — who planned the wedding — two weeks later in front of 45 guests at a close friend’s Manhattan penthouse. “We want to be doing that side-by-side, in every single way.”

Porter’s choice of New York-based Christian Siriano is a welcome one, with the designer, who prides himself on supporting exclusivity, often dressing prominent personalities not confirming to common size and gender-specific norms.

Madonna launched her role as an ambassador for the 50th anniversary celebrations commemorating riots at New York’s Greenwich Village Stonewall Inn with a New Years Eve drop-in.

Accompanied by her son David Banda on acoustic guitar, the pop star welcomed 2019 in the iconic bar that jump-started the modern LBGTQ movement. Madonna led the crowd in a sing-along of "Like a Prayer" and covered Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love."

"I stand here proudly at the place where pride began, the legendary Stonewall Inn, on the birth of a new year," she said. "We come together tonight to celebrate 50 years of revolution.”

The singer called for peace and understanding in her speech, saying, “If we truly took the time to get to know one another we would find that we all bleed the same color and we all need to love and be loved. Let’s remember who and what we are fighting for — ourselves, for each other, but truly and most importantly, what are we fighting for? Let’s take a minute to reflect on how we can bring more love and peace into 2019, let’s look at how we can bring random acts of kindness. Maybe we can find an opening to bring the light in. Are you ready to do that?" via THR
