Arca Releases 'KICK', Lensed by Tim Walker for Vogue Mexico December 2021 AOC Body

Alejandra Ghersi Rodriguez, known professionally as Arca, [IG] is a Venezuelan musician, singer, composer, record producer, and DJ. Timed with the release of the artist’s latest project ‘KICK’, Arca covers the December 2021/January 2022 issue of Vogue Mexico and Latin America.

Ai Kamoshita styles Arca in provocative sensual fashion pieces lensed by Tim Walker as ‘Arca la Diva Experimental.’

Citing her years as a club kid, and interviewing Arca from her home in Barcelona, the New York Times wrote:

“Dance floors are where I found freedom . . . When I moved to New York at age 17, I was very repressed. There were a lot of colors that I was muting internally.”

Arca does not come quietly into the night. Rather she arrives boldly and in a commanding presence. NYT continues

She has produced for FKA twigs, Björk and Kanye West, modeled in campaigns for Bottega Veneta and Calvin Klein, and composed a constantly transforming soundtrack for the Museum of Modern Art’s lobby using artificial intelligence. This year, she was up for her first Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards.

Louis Vuitton Men's FW 2021 by Tim Walker Busts Power People Archetypes AOC Fashion

Whatever your opinion of Louis Vuitton Men’s artistic director Virgil Abloh, he is moving into his own zone of excellence — at least in the eyes of Bernard Arnault and the LVMH family.

Given the realities of business life, AOC reminds the naysayers of this simple reality check: “That’s all that counts.” Not only is LVMH thrilled with Virgil Abloh’s artistic and financial performance at Louis Vuitton Mens, but they are dramatically expanding his role and influence within the entire LVMH family of brands.

The month of July was intense for the Rockford, Illinois-born Abloh who is an artist, architect, entrepreneur, designer and DJ who — in the words of NYTimes woman-in-the-know Vanessa Friedman — is on track to “become the most powerful Black executive at the most powerful luxury goods group in the world.”

It’s true that Virgil Abloh is about “rewriting the rules”, and we love that this reality permeates most of what the hyper-creative visionary does with his time each day.

For the Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall 2021 Campaign, Abloh enlists his trusted creative partner, fashion photographer Tim Walker to play a fashion game of chess.

By taking archetypes such as the writer, the artist, the drifter, the salesman, the hotelier, the gallery owner, the architect, or the student, the collection explores the dress codes that inform our predetermined perceptions of these familiar characters. Virgil Abloh imbues the grammar of these codes with different values and employs fashion as a tool to change those assumptions. Throughout the collection, garments, accessories, motifs and techniques play on themes of illusion, replicating the familiar through the deceptive lenses of trompe l’oeil and filtrage. Leather goods are interpreted through the classic shapes of Louis Vuitton and enriched with added wording, shiny silver, or tuffetage embroidery.” – from Louis Vuitton

British Vogue August 2020 'Reset' Issue Honors Nature & Creatives

British Vogue August 2020 'Reset' Issue Honors Nature & Creatives

Photographer Nick Knight pays high compliments to British Vogue’s EIC Edward Enninful, explaining the mutual synergy that gave life to the first project of its kind for British Vogue’s August 2020 issue: the commissioning of 14 special covers that tapped Britain’s greatest artists and photographers from Tim Walker to Nadine Ijewere, David Hockney, Lubaina Himid and ‘yes’ Nick Knight. Expand the list to include Mert Alas, David Sims, Marcus Piggott, Jamie Hawkesworth, Juergen Teller, Alasdair McLellan, Martin Parr, David Bailey and Craig McDean.

In a followup to the magazine’s recent online auction in collaboration with Sharon Wolter Ferguson’s HEWI (Hardly Ever Wore It), this new project also makes British Vogue an engine of change and support for people in need. “The original prints of each depiction of nature – be it an everyday skyline or the memory of a place much missed – will be auctioned off in aid of Covid-19 relief charities later this year.”

British Vogue’s August Issue, Reset, and the 20-page story ‘All Across the Land’, written by British naturalist Helen Macdonald, supports a mission not only of showcasing the beautiful, but also highlighting that our planet is the living, breathing core of our human existence. As such, Edward Enninful’s 2020 mission is to RESET our relationship to nature.

Knight’s Reset cover was not the first publicity release, but it explains some highly-relevant backstory about the project. The debut cover for the project launch belongs to David Hockney.
