Fuentura is the second largest of the Canary Islands off the coast of North Africa, with Tenerife being the largest. The island's history is rooted its indigenous Guanche population’s colonization by the Spanish.
The island is not tied historically to the slave trade, unlike the Canary Islands of La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro.

/Model Lara Mullen poses for photographer Txema Yeste [IG] in ‘La Pionnière’, perhaps an unintended commentary on the fight for women’s rights for the last 13,000 years. AOC tries not to assume artistic motive and message.
Upon further reflection, Mullen may be channeling Furiosa in the Mad Max spinoff. Or Joan of Arc. Whatever the inspo, AOC loves the fashion story— especially arrows in Mullen’s gut. A full-frontal attack.
Art affects each of us differently; and the sad part of this fashion story for AOC is that American women are going backwards. And ‘yes’, that makes young women joining the fight ‘pioneers’ in what is a sad state of global affairs, frankly.
