Mississippi Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith Celebrates Mississippi Confederacy At Every Opportunity

“I ENJOYED MY TOUR OF BEAUVOIR. THE JEFFERSON DAVIS HOME AND PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY LOCATED IN BILOXI,” HYDE-SMITH WROTE IN A CAPTION ON THIS PHOTOS POSTED TO HER FB PAGE IN 2014. DAVIS WAS THE CONFEDERATE PRESIDENT DURING THE CIVIL WAR. HIS FORMER ESTATE NOW SERVES AS A MUSEUM AND LIBRARY IN HIS HONOR.

“THIS IS A MUST SEE,” HYDE-SMITH WROTE. “CURRENTLY ON DISPLAY ARE ARTIFACTS CONNECTED TO THE DAILY LIFE OF THE CONFEDERATE SOLDIER INCLUDING WEAPONS. MISSISSIPPI HISTORY AT ITS BEST!”

Mississippi Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith Celebrates Mississippi Confederacy At Every Opportunity

U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith attended and graduated from a segregation academy that was set up so that white parents could avoid having to send their children to schools with black students, a yearbook reveals. Hyde-Smith enrolled her own daughter at Brookhaven Academy, another Mississippi segregation school founded in 1970, the Jackson Free Press reported.

The latest race-related battle around Tuesday’s Mississippi Senate race with Democrat Mike Espy follows a recent leaked tape in which Hyde-Smith said that she would gladly attend a “public hanging” is one of her supporters invited her. The statement was outrageous, given Mississippi’s history as the lynching capital of the United States.

One of the most famous lynchings in Mississippi was the savage and brutal death of 14-year old Chicago child Emmett Till.

Hyde-Smith is very proud of Mississippi history and has no hesitation to celebrate the segregated south, saying that the Confederacy represents “Mississippi history at its best.”

I thought of Hillary Clinton, when reading this story. At considerable personal risk to herself, then 24-year-old law student Hillary was working for Marian Wright Edelman, the civil rights activist and prominent advocate for children. Mrs. Edelman had sent her to Alabama in 1972 to help prove that the Nixon administration was not enforcing the legal ban on granting tax-exempt status to so-called segregation academies, the estimated 200 private academies that sprang up in the South to cater to white families after a 1969 Supreme Court decision forced public schools to integrate.

Hillary posed as a young wife, telling the guidance counselor of a seg school that her husband had just taken a job in Dothan, that they were a churchgoing family and that they were looking for a school for their son.

Like many white activists from the North who traveled south to help on civil rights issues, Mrs. Clinton confronted a different world in Dothan, separate and unequal, and a sting of injustice she had previously only read about.

Mad, Mad As Hell, & Madder Still: Hillary Women One Year Later Punch Our Way To The Voting Booths | Take Note, We Are Just Getting Started

Mad, Mad As Hell, & Madder Still: Hillary Women One Year Later Punch Our Way To The Voting Booths | Take Note, We Are Just Getting Started

It's one year later -- one of the worst nights of my life. I drank more vodka than I want to admit. If Mika on Morning Joe opened her Bernie-loving trap on Nov. 9, I would throw a high heel at the TV and hopefully smash her away forever.

Writing for Harper's Bazaar, Jennifer Wright reflects on that awful night a year later and the day after women hit the voting booths, inflicting serious pain on the Republican party in our first reckoning after Hillary's defeat.

I watched as millions of women excitedly gathered in secret groups to support Hillary Clinton’s candidacy. There they talked about what an exciting moment in history this was. They did not venture out because their husbands might not like their vote, or Bernie voters might yell at them, or someone at their work might not like it. We saw at the time, I think, no contradiction in being posed on the edge of ultimate victory for womankind and also secreting ourselves away to make ourselves completely unobjectionable. We were always supposed to be unobjectionable.

So quietly, unobjectionably, we waited. We baked cakes, and chilled champagne, and put stickers on suffragettes graves. And so many of us thought how especially satisfying it would be to see a woman win against a man who was repeatedly accused of sexual harassment, who bragged about sexual assault, who seemed to embody the worst of what women encounter from men.

"It became clear that you can be the most qualified woman and still lose to the least qualified man."

On November 9, we woke up, and Donald Trump had been elected.

MSNBC's Joy Reid Lights Her Own Bonobo Woman Torch At MSNBC

MSNBC's Joy Reid Lights Her Own Bonobo Woman Torch At MSNBC

Josef Adalian zeroes in on one of AOC's most respected journalists -- MSNBC's Joy Reid. Her influence at MSNBC extends far beyond her two-hour 'AM Joy" show on weekend mornings, with the Harvard grad regularly filling in for weekday evening anchors like Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow or Lawrence O'Donnell. As one of the most articulate voices in Trumplandia, Reid's 10-12 timeslot regularly pulls in around 1 million viewers, up between 50 and 60 percent over last year and doubling -- even tripling -- viewers at CNN and Fox News. Why? Because the whip-smart Harvard grad is a one woman debate machine who demands answers and dialogue from her guests -- not talking points. Reid is as informed as Rachel Maddow, giving her a monumental edge in debates, which often involve quick-witted, circuitous dot connecting with guests promoting #FAKENEWS.

Massive Splits Between Clinton & Trump Voters Show Diametrically Opposed Views On Cultural Issues

Massive Splits Between Clinton & Trump Voters Show Diametrically Opposed Views On Cultural Issues

Yet another new poll explores the massive fault lines between Democrats and Republicans, and between Clinton and Trump supporters. NBC's headline sums up yet again the fundamental argument that cultural attitudes -- and not economic forces -- distinguish Democrats from Republicans.  We recap revelations in the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

More than 8-in-10 Clinton voters are comfortable with a changing America. Change comes in many forms, but most Clinton voters are not only positive -- but excited -- about an American experiment that see self-perceived whites as no longer being the majority of Americans. By contrast, only one quarter of Trump voters welcome these changes.

“The ‘Culture Wars’ have been with us forever, and they remain today,” says Democratic pollster Peter Hart, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff.

You Are A Bonobo, Dear Hillary. Trump Is A Silverback With The Smallest Penis & Tiny Brain

You Are A Bonobo, Dear Hillary. Trump Is A Silverback With The Smallest Penis & Tiny Brain

The night Donald Trump literally stalked Hillary Clinton onstage made her skin crawl. This is just one revelation in an excerpt from her new book 'What Happened', written and narrated by the 2016 presidential candidate who experienced a stunning loss to Donald Trump.

The second match-up between the two candidates was hyper-charged. The Oct. 10, 2016 debate took place days after the release of Trump's 'Access Hollywood' tape in which Trump bragged to host Billy Bush about grabbing women “by the pus*y.” The video threatened to derail Trump’s White House race as Republicans sought to distance themselves from their Republican standard-bearer.

When it was over, Trump ally Nigel Farage screamed with glee like "he was like a silverback; he totally dominated her . . . the alpha males are back!!!"

EMILY'S LIST Will Target 50 Republicans For 2018, As The New Dem Boys Club Hugs Anti-Women Candidates

EMILY'S LIST Will Target 50 Republicans For 2018, As The New Dem Boys Club Hugs Anti-Women Candidates

EMILY's List is putting 50 House and Senate Republicans "On Notice" for 2018 in a new campaign. Hopefully, Emily's List will also take seriously the threat from Democratic leadership and develop -- in concert with Planned Parenthood, NARAL and other non-negotiable stalwarts of women's rights -- a strategy to deal with this self-defeating Democratic-leadership male stupidity. We can then contribute to special campaigns targeting anti-choice Democratic candidates wooed by the new Democrats Boys Club. They've got my money.

Maybe Hillary Can Help

Onward Together, the political action group formed earlier this year between Hillary Clinton and former Vermont governor and DNC chair Howard Dean, has hired Emmy Ruiz and Adam Parkhomenko, political operative veterans of her 2008 and 2016 presidential campaigns, to BuzzFeed.

Emails Dominated Hillary News In Voters' Minds In Presidential Campaign Where Trump Totally Controlled Narrative

A very damaging 'email' alleging collusion between Hillary Clinton and the Justice Department with regard to the FBI investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server was known to be unreliable and possibly even fake in the summer of summer 2016.

The Washington Post says the intelligence document, which said then–Attorney General Loretta Lynch promised a campaign staffer that she’d go easy on Clinton, led Comey to “take the extraordinary step” of announcing the investigation’s findings without involving the Justice Department.

From the time of its initial receipt in March 2016, FBI agents debated its veracity. The document, which described an email from former DNC head Debbie Wasserman Schultz to Leonard Benardo of George Soros’s Open Society Foundations, said that Lynch told Clinton staffer Amanda Renteria that she would prevent the investigation from going too deep.

“The idea that Russians would tell a story in which the Clinton campaign, Soros and even an Obama administration official are connected — that Russians might tell such a story, that is not at all surprising,” said Matt Rojansky, a Russia expert and director of the Kennan Institute at the Wilson Center. “Because that is part of the Kremlin worldview.”

How Does Comey's Fall Play in Hillaryland? No One Is Celebrating

Liberals are not linear thinkers

The fact that Hillary supporters put our grave concerns about Trump's love for the Russians ahead of our frustration over Comey's role in costing Hillary the presidential election only confirms that Clinton supporters do not think in a linear path, as do Trump supporters -- and many Sanders supporters, as well.

Hillary Clinton Slams Trump Administration's Assault On Women's Reproductive Health

Hillary Clinton, speaking at the 100th anniversary gala honoring Planned Parenthood on Tuesday, slammed "groups of men" in Washington, DC who are deciding the future of women's health protections. Everyone in the room knew she was talking about the men of the Trump administration and now the anti-women lieutenants like Teresa Manning and Charmaine Yoest, hired to rollback women's health advancements over the last 50 years.

Hillary Clinton Returns In Fighting Form Imploring Us To: RESIST, INSIST, PERSIST, ENLIST!

“Obviously, the outcome of the election wasn’t the one I hoped for, worked for, but I will never stop speaking out,” Clinton said on Tuesday night at the Professional Business Women of California’s annual conference in San Francisco. “I am thrilled to be out of the woods, in the company of so many inspiring women.”

Clinton delivered a four-word mantra to the crowd which was focused on women and diversity in the workplace: RESIST, INSIST, PERSIST, ENLIST! Almost five months after the election, Clinton is not only back, but blazing writes Michelle Ruiz for Vogue.

I'm fighting for a fairer, big-hearted, inclusive America. And the unfinished business of the 21st century can't wait any longer . . . Now is the time to demand the progress we want to see . . . and I'll be right there with you every step of the way."

Clinton criticized Trump for having the fewest number of women in top jobs "in a generation", with four women out of 23 positions. She called out White House press secretary Sean Spicer who told American Urban Radio Networks House correspondent April Ryan "Please, stop shaking your head" during Tuesday's press briefing.  "Too many women have had a lifetime of practice taking this kind of indignity in stride," Clinton said.

Hillary also had choice words regarding Bill O'Reilly's recent comment about Rep. Maxine Waters's (D-Calif) hair.

The Fox New host called it a "James Brown wig," an insult that some interpreted as racist and sexist. Since Trump's election, Waters has repeatedly blasted the president's rhetoric and agenda.

"One of our own California congressmen Maxine Waters was taunted with a racist joke about her hair," Clinton said on Tuesday. "Too many women, especially women of color, have had a lifetime of practice taking precisely these kinds of indignities in stride."

"But why should we have to?" she said. "And any woman who thinks this couldn’t be directed at her is living in a dream world."

Clinton called on Silicon Valley to improve diversity and inclusion, particularly by introducing paid parental leave policies.

“These are not buzzwords to throw around or boxes to check,” Clinton said. “A crucial part of solving these problems is recognizing that, important as it is, corporate feminism is no substitute for inclusive concrete solutions that improve life for women everywhere.”

In Ruiz' words: "She's back, and here's hoping she is as nasty a woman as ever!"

DC's Republic Restoratives Releases Rodham Rye In Honor Of Hillary Clinton

Distillery and craft cocktail bar Republic Restoratives founders Pia Carusone and Rachel Gardner planned and renovated their warehouse space in DC's Ivy City for over two years, making it home to a bar, retail store, a tasting room and their bourbon distillery. Carusone and Gardner can lay claim to the first women-owned distillery in Washington, DC.

“You can’t make a true bourbon unless you’re an American producer,” Carusone said. “Americans have been perfecting it for generations, and it’s protected from international competition. It goes back to international trade law that protects specialties of certain nations.”

The two-story, 24,000 square foot warehouse located at 1369 New York Ave. NE is in an area that is quickly-emerging as the food and liquor manufacturing hub of DC.

“I want people to feel excited, interested and connected in the same way we feel connected to the neighborhood,” Carusone said. “This whole area is developing very fast.”

Home to Rodham Rye

The owners of Republic Restoratives, spent months concocting a spirit worthy of celebrating their next president’s inauguration. Their creative juices imagined a drink that would be the talk of Washington. And then the roof fell in, and it seemed that Rodham Rye sort of made no sense. This week, after “a period of self-described mourning,” Gardner and Carusone have decided to move forward with the whiskey anyway. Their boozy homage to Hillary Clinton went on sale in a limited batch of 4,652 bottles that could go pretty fast, though the company is already teasing, “You never know, there could be a comeback.”

Hillary Clinton has been known to "throw back" the occasional whiskey, writes The Washingtonian. Priced at $79, 5 percent of each sale goes to support pro-choice Democratic women running for political office with the help of Emily's List.

Carusone, who used to be congresswoman Gabby Giffords’s chief of staff, says Rodham Rye is really a celebration of women in general, which is why they’re releasing it in March, during Women’s History Month. “It’s a tribute to women in history, and a tribute to women in our everyday lives,” she tells Washingtonian. And there are plenty of symbolic eye winks. It’s a blend of one- and three-and-a-half-year Tennessee ryes, teeing up this description on the bottle: “A selection of whiskies that are stronger together than apart.” Additionally, Carusone points out, rye is the “hardiest, sturdiest, most resilient” grain of them all, and it just so happens that they sweetened the whiskey with maple syrup from Clinton’s state of New York.

Rodham Rye launched on March 25 with a “community conversation” at the Ivy City distillery entitled “How to Support Women in the Age of Trump.” After a panel discussion, Republic Restoratives lead tours of their facility, offered samples and cocktails, while female-owned vendors provided food.

Jennifer Lawrence Talks Clinton Politics & America's Future On Good Morning America

Jennifer Lawrence Is Lensed by Ben Hassett In 'Extra Terrestre' For Yo Dona December 2016

Top actor Jennifer Lawrence spoke out Monday morning about her post Trump-election mindset. "I didn't mean to speak to only people who voted for Hillary ," Lawrence told Micael Strahan on 'Good Morning America.' "I meant to just speak to the divide . . . for any presidential candidate, being very extreme is scary, left or right."

The 'Passengers' actor made headlines post-November election, when she penned an essay for Broadly Don't Be Afraid, Be Loud: Jennifer Lawrence on What We Do Next.

America's Alt-Right White Men Attack Liberalism With Pizzagate & Moral Outrage

Over the past six weeks, the alleged story of Hillary Clinton and other prominent members of the Democratic Party establishment participating in an international child sex ring has morphed into a front page story. "It began in October, when a baseless rumor about emails allegedly discovered on Anthony Weiner’s laptop made its way through Twitter and 4chan and conspiracy-theorist websites", writes Slate.

Self-deputized online investigators combed through the emails of Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, dumped by WikiLeaks. Finding only campaign talk and recipes, the 'investigators' concluded that innocuous terms used in Podesta’s emails were actually a series of secret codes: “pizza” for girl, “ice cream” for male prostitute, and so on. Comet Ping Pong, a Washington, D.C. pizzeria that had hosted a Democratic fundraiser, was identified (also baselessly) as a headquarters for sex-ring activities. The conspiracy theory acquired a name, “Pizzagate.”

On Sunday a man wielding an assault rifle entered Comet Ping Pong, saying he was there to investigate Pizzagate. 4chan users are confident that the man is part of a false-flag operation being carried out by the establishment to discredit their investigation. Consider that every falsehood has another one to explain why it isn't.

The Clintons have been accused of every possible crime over the course of their 30-plus years in politics, but this one takes the cake, so to speak. We should remember, however, that America has been obsessed with child-sex-rings for the last 30 years. Slate reviews this sordid history of false allegations.

JUST IN!!! Based on Actual Voting in Florida, Hillary Is Taking 28% of the Republican Vote

We are fired up and ready to go!!!

Clinton is winning 28% of Republican votes cast in Florida to date, based on surveys of votes already cast. Goddess bless us all!!! The REAL vote -- not the polls -- but the real votes cast in Florida so far are crossing over for Hillary. It's projected that Hillary Clinton has 53% of the actual votes cast in Florida so far. Barring a major catastrophe, Hillary Clinton is projected to win Florida by 8% on Tuesday.

You KNOW the Republican group is disproportionately Republican women.

NOW, the Senate vote is neck and neck in Florida. We MUST take the Senate because Republicans are already saying they will not confirm a Supreme Court candidate for four years.

We MUST take the Senate to protect the Supreme Court and advance the issues all the progressive Hillary haters claim to care about. Without the Senate, this will be a minor presidential victory.

This could be a wipeout. We are fired up and ready to go!!! It's time to fix America and it will be a broad-based coalition. That means not everyone will get everything on their list. If we protect the Senate, we have the Supreme Court. ~ Anne
