Balenciaga Deletes All References to Kanye West and Ye With Few Words but Bold Actions

Announcement via Rolling Stone

After removing all visible references to Ye, known to the world as Kanye West, from their own websites on Thursday — along with any products sold on third-party websites carrying an association beween Balenciaga and the rapper/creative marketer of all things Ye or Yeezy — Balenciaga has issued a statement saying that the luxury label no longer has "any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist.”

On Oct. 17, the fashion giant issued a statement saying West’s runway look from Balenciaga’s Spring 2023 show at Paris Fashion Week had been deleted from Vogue Runway, as well as the Balenciaga website. Balenciaga’s severing of any association with Kanye West is due to his recent anti-Semitic statements and threatening behavior, as expressed on the podcast Drink Champs. Kanye has threatened to go death con 3 on Jews in recent days.

Additionally, West’s right-wing, conspiracy-theory assertion that George Floyd died of a drug overdose — and not because of the nine-minute, knee on his neck, no-mercy murder that the entire world watched live — was stated as a reason why Balenciaga has severed all connections to Kanye West, legally known as Ye.

AOC is very supportive of Kerring’s inclusion of the George Floyd death denial by Kanye West, as I was personally devastated when listening to Ye adopt the damnable lies around a needless and inhuman death at the hands of the Minneapolis police department.

The relationship between Balenciaga’s creative head Demna Gvasalia, known only as Demna, and Ye could not have been closer and one assumes that the designer is both troubled and also deeply saddened over the official end to their creative collaboration and friendship.

Ye has referred to himself as Demna’s straight husband — perhaps in contrast to musician BFRND, who is Demna’s real husband. More than once, West has almost taunted Balenciaga’s parent company Kering tweeting, “I’m going to steal Demna from Balenciaga.”

Kanye West is so out-of-control at this point, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the rapper proclaim to the world that Demna will be his — as if the Balenciaga designer is some kind of revenge trophy. AOC does not mean to be disrespectful of the close, mentally-stimulating relationship shared between Demna and Ye.

“With Ye, I have something that I don’t really have with other people, where anything is possible,” Demna told ‘The Times’ last year, wrote Rolling Stone. “For me, talking with him is like going back in time to the 8-year-old me who doesn’t have all these barriers and filters. We spent like two and a half hours talking about buttons. Those kinds of conversations help me to evolve as a designer because I think: ‘Yeah, why do we do it like this? Why buttons? Why packaging?’ I never thought about that before.”
