'The Girl From Atlantis' [2010] by Sølve Sundsbø Remains a Fervent Love at AOC

‘THE GIRL FROM ATLANTIS’ is my favorite fashion editorial ever — for deeply personal reasons. Published in Vogue Japan’s May 2010 issue, the fashion story starred model Alla Kostromichova, styled by George Cortina in McQueen, Miu Miu and Versace.

Photographer Sølve Sundsbø [IG] is an artist on firm footing when wandering in and out of Jung’s collective unconscious as manifested in the femalecentric ocean.

If a fashion story exists that symbolizes Anne of Carversville and the mythology around my own view of women’s history and our very existence, it’s ‘The Girl From Atlantis.’

In today’s world of emerging AI, this story looks remarkably fresh and modern — and also ancient and not governed by time. Its truths speak to me as AOC dives into mermaids with the upcoming release of ‘The Little Mermaid’ with Halle Bailey.
