Jeano Edwards at Monkey Island Estate for WSJ Magazine November Stellar Market Report
/Brooklyn and London-based photographer Jeano Edwards [IG] and stylist Chloe Grace Press raise the bar on what defines a market report, packing up models Ajayi Temitope and Baba Chogwu and heading for the gardens of the Monkey Island Estate hotel. WSJ Magazine’s November 2021 issue is not playing at fashion dress-up — not even in a standard market report. A little muscle-flexing, perhaps?
Situated on a private island in England’s River Thames. the recently-restored Monkey Island Estate hotel is located in Bray, a mere spec on the map village beloved of international gourmands for its four Michelin-starred restaurants.
Using a monochrome palette, Press has created pared-back, but architecturally interesting ensembles that are super-luxe. The WSJ asserts the outfits work for daytime or after dark, in Twelve Ways to Wear Chic Pieces This Fall.
In every way, this so-called market report is just stunning —and AOC does not throw that word around, but perhaps 12 times in a year. It’s in a lockbox and only opened on special occasions. Here we have elegant, sophisticated, Black models and photographer walking into history and owning the visual moment. SOLD!
WSJ writes: A soft gray Miu Miu dress, a matching top and skirt by Versace or a classic white Salvatore Ferragamo coat exude a sense of ease. A knit Bottega Veneta one-shoulder dress offers a striking silhouette while a silky, cream-colored top from Fendi shows skin with ladylike chic. Stroll through gardens on balmier days in an open-weave Valentino gown. The dressed-up style of a Celine by Hedi Slimane dress, complete with Paula Rowan gloves and a Chanel bracelet, turns out to be the perfect outfit for a boat ride—ditto a furry vest from Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello. —Jessica Gibbs
