Vogue Thailand August 2022 Presents 'Arabesque' Lensed by Wasan Puengprasert

Photographer Wasan Puengprasert [IG] sets off with Vogue Thailand August 2022 to Sakon Nakhon province, located in upper northeastern Thailand. The province is rich in the world of indigo-dyed weaving crafts and natural-dyed fabrics produced by diverse community groups.

The result is a 20 page fashion story ‘Arabesque’ styled by Jirat Suppisankul [IG] with models Chirachaya Ketkong, Khunnarong Prathrat and Miriam Sornprommat posing in unadulterated beauty and “on the road” fashion.

There are moments when the domination of the color ‘black’ and a lack of embellishment [in order for a woman to be taken seriously] in recent decades can be seen as an economic disaster for indiginous craftspeople. The tentacles of this reality reach into global communities worldwide in fashion’s rejection of color, pattern and imagination.

One person comes to mind as she who has rejected that formula and her name is Anna Wintour. The artistic director of Condé Nast and the Global Editorial Director of Vogue has a long list of reasons why wearing black is bad for body and soul, to say nothing of artisans worldwide.

It was St. Sugustine who said:

“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.'“

Of course, boho spirits among us — Anne of Carversville for one — have never adopted the color ‘black’ in order to be taken seriously, except on the subject of race relations. This wonderful fashion story from the August 2022 issue of Vogue Thailand reminds us of exactly what we are missing. ~ Anne
