Mariacarla Boscono's Quiet Beauty by Luigi & Iango for Vogue Korea September 2023
/More than once, Miuccia Prada embraced the ‘ugly’ to make it beautiful. Backstage in February after their Fall 2023 runway show, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons explained that within the ongoing crisis of the war in Ukraine, their focus is on caring.
In a further nod to the Ukrainian people, Miuccia said “Mainly what I care about now is to give importance to what is modest, to value modest jobs, simple jobs, and not only extreme beauty or glamour.”
The modesty that permeates the entire Fall 2023 collection is not preoccupied with sexuality. As Nicole Phelps wrote for Vogue: “ Nurses’ whites got a thorough consideration, transformed into long-line shirt dresses complete with short trains, and a trio of capes could’ve been lifted off a World War II era recruitment poster for the army nurse corps.”
Divining the designs of clothes that entertain was not a high priority for the Prada team. And as only Miuccia can do, if her clients can’t understand why this mood is important — well, they can wear her clothes next season.
