Chinese Warrior Lanterns By Artist Xia Nan Comes Celebrate Chinese New Year in Sydney

Sydney, Australia welcomes Chinese New Year with 90 colorful lantern sculptures created by Chinese artist Xia Nan for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The sculptures are made of fabric and wire and can be viewed from February 13-February 22 in Dawes Point.

The lanterns are inspired by an army of terracotta soldiers discovered in the tomb of the 3rd Century BC First Chinese Emperor Qin Shi. Discovered in an underground vault of 12,000 square meters, the battle formation of 8,000 sculptures were probably created to defend the emperor’s immortal soul.
