Laetitia Casta | Terry Richardson | Purple Magazine S/S 2011

Terry Richardson lenses Laetitia Casta in Azzedina Alaia for the new S/S 2011 edition of Purple Magazine. The editorial is understandably drawing plenty of WTFs. Conceptually it’s not an editorial for TR but rather Mario Sorrenti or even Ellen von Unwerth.

I am passionate at this point that France — with help from Brazil, Scandinavia and any other country we can get on board — must lead against the growing global attack on female sexuality. Conservative, religious, patriarchal forces are lunging for control of women’s bodies, especially here in America.

My instincts tell me that Purple Magazine editor Olivier Zahm is conceptually attached to this reality, even if it’s not his style, not Terry’s to relate intimately to what women are going through.

French women understand and they also understand France’s role as a beacon for female sensuality and respectability. Bottom line, I’m not laughing at the editorial, writing “so it is all looking very ridiculous, especially how she s going after poor dead statues that look awkward and comic”.

The Purple Magazine attempt is honorable, but better lensed with a more sensually sympathetic image maker. An elegant model like Laetitia Casta, given her public French history as Marianne, is perfect for the role.  Styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele. Anne
