Wrangler Red | We Are Animals | Jeff Burton 2010

This is an unusual editorial for us to feature in Private Studio. Typically, I would put it in Dots, my business branding column — where I did write about the 2009 ‘We Are Animals’ Campaign or maybe Green Beings, with its focus on nature and sustainability.

I had no idea that photographer Jeff Burton shot the 2010 Wrangler Red campaign, checking his portfolio after we posted the Edita Vilkeviciute editorial ‘Sunset’ for Numero #120, February 2011 issue.

Having received words of encouragement from three photographers today, and for the first time ever having my young Sensually Yours column lead slightly Private Studio and our Daily Musings front page, I want to thank those who wrote me and underscore the importance and priority of the photographers in the evolving vision for the websites.

I wrote this at Christmas, and I’ll say it again.

With all respect to the beautiful models of the world, I am focused on the photographers and stylists — the image makers. The strongest editorials have all players operating on all cylinders, but we are concerned about the meaning makers, the mood creators, the lasting impression creators.

Anne of Carversville is about “smart sensuality people with heart.”  We are sexy, political websites with strong values and a concrete mission that encompasses human sexuality, religion and sexuality, man’s dominance over nature, global poverty, and conscious living.

The Wranger Red campaign would never run in America, but it’s superb as an example of our differences in consumption decisions between America and Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan — most of the rest of the developed world, frankly.

For me the Wranger Red campaign, as imaged by Jeff Burton, sums up all the individual channels of Anne of Carversville in a single editorial.

It’s not pretty, but neither are the stories we write about. I wrote yesterday that when Gaga says her new perfume will be made of blood and semen, we’re all on the same wavelength. (I’m reconsidering the meat dress.)

Jeff Burton captured all the passion, suffering and challenges we face today in these Wrangler Red images. Let me post them before the new 2011 campaign emerges. AOC is really rolling — we’re speechless and can’t keep up.

Thank you so much for letting me be a sexy, ranting, caring, stylish intellectual trying to do some good in the world. From fashion to flogging, we cover it all — because it’s all connected and most of it is about sensuality, sex and religion, one way or another.  Love to all. Anne
