Britain Bans Melanie Thierry's Sensual Dance in Belle D'Opium Ad

Even though the majority of viewers didn’t find the new Belle D’Opium fragrance ad by Yves Saint Laurent to be offensive, Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority banned the ad with French actress Melanie Thierry dancing sensuously after receiving 13 complaints from viewers.

The majority does not rule — in fact the majority has no say in what is considered offensive in today’s Britain and America.  Agreeing that the Belle D’Opium ad is very sexy, the fact that it allegedly promotes drug use leaves me speechless.

Belle D’Opium Fragrance Ad Banned in Britain

Melanie Thierry ends the ad saying “I am your addiction; I am Belle D’Opium, the new fragrance by Yves St Laurent.”

The fact that the actual dance scene, consisting of short and rapid movements, ending with the actress lying on the floor, might be considered as simulating the effect of drugs on the body also concerned British authorities.

In reality, Melanie Thierry is slithering around in a sensual dance, projecting the same images of femaleness that has upset the morality police for centuries. Banning ads is becoming a great way of giving them free global marketing. Anne
