Michelle & Hillary Go Girl Power in North Carolina | WikiLeaks Opens Door To 'Bill Clinton Inc.'
/This Video Of Michelle Obama Dancing Behind Hillary Clinton Is Girl Power Goals Essence
Surrogate-in-chief Michelle Obama hit the campaign trail Thursday with Hillary Clinton in their first joint-event ever. But standing next to the Democratic presidential nominee, Mrs. Obama definitely stole the show.
Both ladies heaped praised on each other in front of the massive crowd of 10,000 in the swing state North Carolina, who turned out to hear the First Lady make a case for why Clinton deserves to be in office.
They were very different first ladies-now Obama is campaigning for Clinton Fortune
When they campaign together for the first today --Thursday -- the event in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, will bring together one of the least traditional first ladies in modern history named Hillary Clinton with one who has fully embraced tradition.
While I've loved Michelle Obama to bits since the day she moved into the White house, initially I didn't adjust so well to her mom-in-chief positioning. A policy wonk myself, I only revered the Hillary Clinton approach. Boy was I wrong!
After Hillary lost the 2008 primary election to Barack Obama, I never dreamed that today our magnificent First Lady would be Hillary Clinton's greatest advocate. Perhaps because she's one of the girls -- a cause that Mrs. Obama is passionate about. I fully expect her to have some kind of honorary ambassadorship or leadership role on behalf of women and girls in a Hillary Clinton administration.
Hacked memo offers an angry glimpse inside 'Bill Clinton Inc.' Politico
Included in the recent John Podesta email dump by WikiLeaks is a 12-page, November 2011 memo by longtime Bill Clinton adviser Doug Band, who came under heavy criticism several years ago for alleged conflicts of interest involving his private consulting firm Teneo and the Clinton Foundation. Band was coming under increasing criticism by Chelsea Clinton who sought changes to the Clinton Foundation's governance procedures while complaining that Band, Teneo co-founder Declan Kelly and others were profiting from their ties to her father. Clearly irritated Doug Band's defense was: Bill Clinton’s doing it, too.
The Band memo at one point bluntly calls the money-making part of Clinton’s life as 'Bill Clinton Inc.' and notes that the global education firm Laureate International Universities was first a donor to the Clinton Foundation before paying Clinton personally for his services.
In reading the memo, it becomes clearer why Doug Band called Chelsea Clinton "a spoiled brat" in an earlier WikiLeaks email. One example of Chelsea Clinton's "interference" was her concern that Band had used her father's name with members of the British parliament in order to gain new clients for Teneo. The entire situation smelled like a problem for her mother in any future presidential run.
In a new article written Thursday by the New York Times, the emails reveal ongoing concerns among members of the Clinton campaign team about appearances of conflict of interests between Hillary and the Clinton Foundation.
In an October 2014 email, campaign manager Robbie Mook asked whether Mrs. Clinton’s name would be used in connection with the foundation, formally known as the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation. “It will invite press scrutiny and she’ll be held accountable for what happens there,” he wrote.
When Mrs. Clinton was on the verge of declaring her candidacy in 2015, Cheryl D. Mills, a longtime lawyer and top aide to both Clintons, said she talked to Mrs. Clinton about various “steps” to take in her relationship with the foundation.
By fall 2015, Mrs. Clinton’s answered Clinton Foundation questions with a standard answer. “As President, I won’t permit any conflicts between my work for the American people and the Foundation’s good work."
Another email gaining press attention this week focused on an alleged gift of $12 million to the Clinton Foundation and a request that Hillary Clinton attend a foundation-related event in Morocco. The candidate ultimately did not attend the foundation event in Morocco after close aide Huma Abedin expressed grave concerns about the appearances. Bill and Chelsea Clinton did go, although it's not clear that the promised donation ever arrived. The King of Morocco is not listed among the foundation's donors.
Politico-Harvard poll: Clinton voters eager to scrap Hyde Amendment Politico
Most voters oppose Hillary Clinton’s proposal to scrap the Hyde Amendment, preventing federal tax dollars to cover abortion — but her most ardent supporters love it, according to a new poll conducted for POLITICO by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Only 36 percent of likely voters want to overturn the long-standing ban on Medicaid paying for abortion with federal funds, but among Clinton voters -- 57 percent support scrapping the current amendment. We can assume the vast majority of those voters are women.
Federal funding for Planned Parenthood, in contrast, remains strong by an approximately 3-to-2 ratio.
