Paolo Roversi Captures Sarah Burton's Alexander McQueen 'Anemones' Fall 2021 Collection

Master photographer Paolo Roversi [IG] captures Alexander McQueen [IG] FW 2021 ‘Anemones’ collection. As always, Sarah Burton infuses the healing powers of nature into her designs, choosing anemones and water as recurring motifs in her deigns — as if to chase away the darkness of the past year.

“It feels like now is a time for healing, for breathing new life, for exploring echoes from the past to enrich our future,” Burton wrote in a statement. “More than ever, a sense of humanity, of the team working together with a single aim—to make something beautiful, something meaningful—feels both precious and important.”

The Power of Biophilic Design

Burton’s commentary echoes our own mood at AOC, as we 1) really ramp up our writings about sustainability and 2) explore in depth the concept we referenced last month biophilic design.

My new article Fake Poser Plants vs the Health and Wellness Benefits of Real Plants is in total sync with Sarah Burton’s new collection.

AOC was writing about biomimicry over a decade ago. But I admit that biophilic design — with Apple being a big mover and shaker in formalizing the concept in its new office in Cupertino, Ca — did not get the attention it deserved on the website.

We will fix that miss and bring AOC back into a strong voice on biophilic design, as advanced by Edward O. Wilson’s most important book ‘Biophilia’ about the relationship of humans to nature.

Models featured in the new fall 2021 collection include Jennifer Ball, Luca Biggs, Lucia Fairfull and Mary Maguet (See visual ID’s end of images.) Art direction comes from M/M [Paris]./ Makeup by Hannah Murray; hair by Yannick D’Is; casting by Jess Hallett

We will write a separate article on the sustainability of the new collection, but Burton’s fabric of choice is a 100% recycled and sustainable faille. The fabrication is perfect for Alexander McQueen’s sexy, flowers-abound designs for modern-day Aphrodites.
