Sabrina Carpenter, Post Taylor Swift Tour, Fronts New SKIMS Stretch Lace Campaign
/Pop star Sabrina Carpenter fronts a new SKIMS campaign for the new Stretch Lace and Fits Everybody spring collections dropping tomorrow April 3.
In a volley across the net, SKIMS — who is playing hardball with Victoria’s Secret — calls Stretch Lace offering “the most alluring underwear drop yet.”
‘Alluring’ is not a word that described the original SKIMS. But the brand drops one fabulous collection after another these days and its retail stores business has a busy year in 2024.
Victoria’s Secret is not playing from a position of strength in this growing rivalry, and it will be interesting when VS is going head-to-head with SKIMS in Austin, Texas; or Houston, Texas; a flagship in Los Angeles; a big store in New York City.
Watch for Delicious Apple Comparisons
Jens Grede, co-founder and chief executive officer of SKIMS says that Apple-location cities are high on his list. And tourism cities like Atlanta, Dallas and Miami. Grede is generally quiet about SKIMS plans even in Texas cities like Houston, where permit construction paperwork has been filed.
Note that Les Wexner also went through his public Apple and Victoria’s Secret stores go together like Austin’s Pecan Porter craft beer and Franklin Barbecue. Anne suggested on AOC that her former boss come down to Earth over that faulty comparison.
The SKIMS store in Austin opened mid-November 2023 at The Domain, where Versace and Burberry are also opening in 2024.
We assume that Burberry is still on schedule, but the brand is under major financial pressure.
SKIMS Takes Heat From Swifties
Enough operational details. Back to Wednesday’s Sabrina Carpenter’s SKIMS drop. Media loves to promote conflict for clicks, so there’s no clarity on how serious an issue — if at all — is news that the ‘Nonsense’ singer is taking some heat about the SKIMS campaign from Swifties.
Fresh off opening Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows in Australia and Singapore, and touring last fall with Swift, not all Swifties were onboard with Sabrina Carpenter promoting SKIMS, when Kim and her ex-husband Kanye West have such a sketchy history with the biggest pop star on the planet.
AOC hadn’t thought of that ‘liability’ on Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS balance sheet — financial facts that impress the heck out of us.
Nor do we track these feuds, but Anne saw live the arrogant, misogynist behavior of Kanye West when he jumped onstage to upstage Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, after winning best female video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. West thought the award should have gone to Beyoncé.
Swift was astonished, as was Anne.
Then West released his song ‘Famous’, where he rapped that he “might still have sex” with Swift because he “made that b— famous.” Yup, that’s Kanye. No woman earns anything on her own talents in Kanye’s world.
Swift Will Accept a Public Apology
The entire timeline of Swift and West — and where Kim Kardashian got involved — was recapped last December at the New York Times, now 14 years later. Swift raised the issue when she became TIME’s person of the year.
From Swift’s perspective, Kim Kardashian owes her a public apology for scheming with her then husband, when he ripped off Swift’s lyrics without her permission. Kardashian edited a phone call in which Kanye claimed that Swift had given him permission — and she did not.
In the words of Taylor Swift “public shaming calls for a public ‘I’m sorry.” Swift is happy to settle the drama for a simple, but public, apology from Kardashian.
Sooner Rather Than Later, Kim
Kim Kardashian is powerful, very talented and influential. But Taylor Swift impacts national economies. So Kim, get this issue settled before it haunts your SKIMS business expansion with Swift Nation.
Blame it all on your Nazi-loving, misogynist ex-husband. And tell your kids that you are going to do it, because you can’t keep this story under wraps indefinitely. Just say “Daddy told a big lie and Mommy helped him, and I intend to apologize to Taylor Swift.”
The clock’s ticking, Kim.
