Body-Paint Artist Mia Einat Dan for Vogue Portugal June 2024 by Alina Gross

Vogue Portugal’s [IG] June 2024 issue theme ‘From Portugal with Love’ has delivered deep thinking in its fashion and beauty editorials.

The bar is raised higher with models Kisha Hahn and Tatjana Isabel posing in a beauty editorial ‘De Bandeira Ao Peito’. The story is a visual metaphor tribute to the Portuguese soul, styled by Esteban Pomar.

The Lusitanians were an Indo-European-speaking people living in the far west of the Iberian Peninsula, in present-day central Portugal and Extremadura and Castilla y Leon of Spain. In 1509, Lusitania became the first global empire in history, settling Brazil in 1512.

“It’s not only in the shades that the territory manifests itself, but also in the words that can’t be read, but seem audible on every inch of skin”, writes Vogue Portugal. It’s through the creative expression of award-winning makeup and body-painting artist and creative director Mia Einat Dan, that the words take on a visual identity with human skin as the canvas.

Photographer and art director Alina Gross [IG] captures the sublime images created, with hair by Asier Aguiriano.

In the words of poet and national literary figure Fernando Pessoa in Mar Português: “Everything is worthwhile if the soul is not small”. As a fashion magazine, Vogue Portugal — like Vogue Greece — does not shy away from weaving an expansive range of artists into its visual narratives.
