Deva Cassell in ‘The Beautiful Summer’
In a storyline scripted straight of her now-divorced, parents’ lives, Deva Cassell is making her acting debut as a provocative artists’ model in Italian director Laura Luchetti’s ‘The Beautiful Summer’.
Based on the widely-translated novel ‘La Bella Estate’ by Italian author Cesare Pavese, Cassell plays the role of the unhibited artist’s model Amelia.
The novel won Italy’s Premio Strega literary prize in 1950 and brings together a second young woman Ginia, played by Yile Yara Vianello, into the bohemian summer world of young love and sensual exploration.
The movie is anchored in Turin, Italy in 1938, against the ominous reality of Fascist-era Italy’s entry into World War II. Luchetti has also written the screenplay for the film.
Filming wrapped for the movie, which was shot between Turin, the Avigliana lakes and Carignano in November 2022.
