Netflix’s major production ‘The Leopard’ is now available in America, after its star-studded opening in Rome. Netflix has taken the sumptuous Sicilian series on a global tour involving gala presentations in Italian embassies and other institutions in Washington D.C., London, Berlin, Brussels and other world capitals.

During her introductory remarks in Washington, Italian ambassador to the U.S. Mariangela Zappia read a passage from the novel and pointed out that "at its core, 'The Leopard' is a deep and moving reflection on the change of times."

"It captures Sicily in transformation, as a family navigates the tides of the Risorgimento [the 19th-century unification of Italy] and its social and political turmoil," Zappia continued. "It's an incredibly moving reflection on identity and survival."

Deva Cassel plays the role of Angelica Sedara, amid the 1860s fall of the Sicilian aristocracy. She enjoys a high-society romance with Prince Tancredi Falconeri, played by actor Saul Nanni. “Two years ago, we spent six months bringing The Leopard to life, not just as a story, but as a love letter to this land,” Cassel wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post. “It taught me more than I ever expected—about art, history, and the incredible people I met on the way.”

One of those people was Saul Nanni, who became Cassel’s lover early-on in the production.

The visually-stunning, luxurious production, inspired by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa's renowned novel situated in Sicily, premiered on Netflix USA on March 5. During the initial five days, 'The Leopard' accumulated over 3 million global views and secured a spot in the platform's Top 10 across more than 30 nations such as Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, and Spain. In Italy, 'The Leopard' swiftly climbed to the No. 1 position.

‘The Leopard’ Star Deva Cassel for Madame Figaro

Fashion media has supported ‘The Leopard’ from the first PR drop about the series. Leading-role actor Deva Cassel appears today in a visually-arresting cover story for Madame Figaro France [IG] March 2025. Cassel is styled by Barbara Baumel in grand fashion choices from Celine, Chloe, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Loewe and more, with high jewelry from Cartier.

Cassel has ambassador roles with Dior and Cartier. Like her mother Monica Belluci, Deva Cassel has enjoyed a historical relationship with Dolce & Gabbana. It’s unclear how this house friendship is impacted by Cassel’s new relationship with Dior.

The 1963 original movie ‘The Leopard’, an Italian cinema classic, won the 1963 Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, with Cassel playing the role that originally belonged to Claudia Cardinale.

Deva Cassel was filming the six-part Netflix series when the May 2024 issue of Vogue Taiwan, photographed by JUANKR, was early to launch the PR backstory for ‘The Leopard’.
