In January we met actor Benedetta Porcaroli, who appears with Sydney Sweeney in ‘Immaculate’.
The American psychological horror film is directed by Michael Mohan and written by Andrew Lobel and centers on a devoutly religious woman Cecilia, played by Sweeney. Sweeney originally auditioned for the role when she was age 16 — a decade ago — and then film project went nowhere.
“There are so many projects that are absolutely incredible that never end up getting made,” Sweeney said about ‘Immaculate’. Frustrated no more — and sitting with considerable resources of her own a decade later — Sweeney decided to take on ‘Immaculate’ with her Fifty-Fifty Films company. She turned to “White Lotus” producer David Bernad; they got financing for the film and hired director Mohan, who persuaded her to change the original ending to one far more dramatic.
Sweeney also woke up one day on nun TikTok, which she described as a “vast, vast place to be.” With another undiscussed project in development, Sweeney will then turn to “Barbarella”.
From nun TikTok to a Barbarella remake. Now that is a stunning range of projects — perhaps a true commentary on women’s lives.
Immaculate has opened in theaters on March 21, to generally good reviews. Actually Sweeney’s reviews are stellar. This is what the critics are saying:
