In their introduction to their end of one decade, launch of the 2020s interview, Harper’s does a quick survey of Angelina Jolie — the founding muse of AnneofCarversville.com. I remember well reading Angelina’s Esquire interview on a warm Sunday morning in Carversville. It was a moment that changed my own trajectory, returning me to a life of activism in a post-September 2001 world.

Considering Angelina’s thoughts about beheaded by ISIS WSJ reporter Daniel Pearl — in a moment of pure impulse — AOC was born.

Harper’s introduction to Angelina’s interview — answers delivered digitally — makes me proud to know we have covered every step of issues that matter deeply to Angelina Jolie. Read those articles in Angelina’s widget and other Winning Women members at AOC. ~ Anne

V Magazine 115 introduces us to Jorja Smith with this intro:

Listening to Jorja Smith’s stunner of a debut album, 2018’s Lost & Found, it’s easy to forget that it’s a work crafted by someone just barely out of their teens. Filled with wry observations about longing, identity, and the politics of race and woman-hood, the album is both astute and beautiful—a soul-infected platter of slinky R&B that sounds like it could have been released during the glory days of British trip-hop, centered around a voice wise beyond its years. So when Smith turns up to talk about it, popping by a sushi restaurant in midtown Manhattan en route to a taping of a late-night talk show, she is the very definition of unassuming. Fresh-faced in shorts and a T-shirt, she is both radiant and almost unrecognizable from the glam femme fatale seen in the videos for breakout singles “Let Me Down” and “Beautiful Little Fools.” Sitting down for a cup of green tea, Smith laughs when I mention that I might have mistaken her for a student on her way to class. “My nan always told me I was an old soul,”she says, “But people forget sometimes that I’ve only just turned 21.”

Koj was born in war-torn South Sudan, spent four years in Egypt, and then migrated to Australia with her family at age seven. WhoWhatWear writes that Koj was the first African model to open a fashion show in Australia: the Georgia Alice show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in 2016. Now this great beauty joins Adut Akech, Akiima and Duckie Thot on the precipice of an international fashion career.

“I love it,” she says. “You feel like a princess; your heels might be hurting but you can’t let the audience know; you must walk gracefully and elegantly.”

Allure Acknowledges Dearth Of Asian Cover Models With Fei Fei, Fernanda & Soo Joo On June 2018 Issue

Allure Magazine joins the movement towards a more inclusive perspective with its June 2018 issue with a focus on Asian models. In her editor’s letter and a series of tweets, Allure editor-in-chief Michelle Lee explained her personal motivations to include an all Asian cast for this month’s cover with a moment of reflection and an understanding that numbers mean more than empty words. Our decision to feature three Asian women got me thinking about when the last time was that Allure had an Asian woman on the cover, Lee explained before stating some pretty incredible facts. In 327 issues and over 28 years, there had only been two Asian women on the cover: Lucy Liu in 2000 and Olivia Munn, who’s part Chinese, in 2014. Not. good!

Bella is interviewed by sister Gigi, and the first question cracks me up.  I am so sick of self-appointed curators of models criticizing Bella for always having the same facial expression, writing in comments that she has no talent and is a zombie.

GH: Fans assume they know you because you’re in the public eye. But what is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

BH: That I never go a day without smiling. People always say I have the same facial expressions. But what they don’t realize is that for a long time I looked that way because photographers on set would direct me to look “bored” or “very nonchalant.” But it isn’t necessarily the way I really am. You’ve known me, of course, my whole life. And ever since I was a baby, I was always smiling.

Swindon currently stars with Bong Joon-Ho in their new Netflix film 'Okja', a story of corporate villainy in the form of a powerful, multinational bio-food company prostituting itself for $$$. Swinton plays Lucy Mirando—as well as her twin sister, Nancy. Upon taking over her nasty father’s company, Lucy announces a contest called the Super Pig Project whereby piggies are sent to farmers around the world and the best one will be crowned the winner 10 years later. Flash forward, and Okja the pig has developed a friendship with Mija (Ahn Seo Hyun), who lives with her grandfather in South Korea. But their idyllic life is disturbed when Mirando comes to reclaim Okja, inspiring Mija to risk everything to save Okja.

'Okha' opened on very limited theater distribution in South Korea this week. Exec-produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, the film did stunningly well in the ongoing dispute with Netflix over the timings of releases.  Fans can also watch the film on the big screen at the upcoming Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, Asia's largest genre event, which is slated to run July 13-23 in Seoul's satellite city of Bucheon, writes The Hollywood Reporter.
