"Yellow Vest" ? The Majority of French People Are Among the Richest 10% in the World

THOUSANDS OF YELLOW VESTS (GILETS JAUNES) PROTESTS IN PARIS CALLING FOR LOWER FUEL TAXES, REINTRODUCTION OF THE SOLIDARITY TAX ON WEALTH, A MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE, AND EMMANUEL MACRON'S RESIGNATION AS PRESIDENT OF FRANCE, 09 FEBRUARY 2019. BY NORBU GYACHUNG, CC BY-SA 4.0. VIA WIKI COMMONS.

" Yellow Vest " ? The Majority of French People Are Among the Richest 10% in the World

In France, the concern for inequality makes poverty invisible. For example, the organization Oxfam, whose name is related to the famine ( Ox ford Committee for Fam ine Relief), focused his campaign on the rich. The media gave the names of billionaires who would own as much as half of humanity but did not say a word about the poor. Yet, naming poor people increases their sympathy for them and promotes altruistic decision, as many studiesshow.

The invisibility of the poor could be explained by the current context. After long months of saying that yellow jackets "suffer", that they are "in distress" and can not "make ends meet" or "fill their fridge", can we still talk about those who live on $ 1.90 a day?

There is certainly good news: the proportion of the world's poor has fallen drastically. Forty years ago, it was over 40%. Today, only 10% of the world's population lives on $ 1.90 a day. Half of these people live in Africa.

So, imagine that you have 100 euros to give. You can give them to Christian, one of my students, born in Burkina Faso: he will send them to his family who live with $ 1.90 a day, as nearly half of Burkinabe. But you can also give them to Eric, father and driver, who earns a little more than 54 euros per day, the value of the daily smic.

How are you going to spend those 100 euros?

Delaware has the highest unintended pregnancy rate in the country — 62 per every 1,000 women between 15 and 44. Fifty-seven percent of the pregnancies in the state are unintentional.

"I used to understand birth control as a way to prevent abortion," Delaware Gov. Jack Markell told me in a recent interview. "That's true, but now I have a different way of looking at it. This is really an issue about opportunity, and the opportunities women get when they have children when they want to."

The Delaware and Upstream partnership is how the mechanical vagina— and a team of Upstream staff members — ended up traveling to the Life Health Center in Wilmington.

Redtracker | TIME Remembers 50,000 People In New York City Demanding Women's Equality

Women's News Headlines August 26, 2016

Second-wave feminism flexed its mighty muscle on Aug. 26, 1970, as 50,000 women marched down New York City’s Fifth Avenue. Joined by a coterie of men and anti-war protesters, the marchers were celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, giving American women the vote. They were also demanding changes to the policies that affected women's lives: childcare and abortion policies, education and employment opportunities. Many women abandoned their usual duties for the day, joining with spiritual sisters across the country staging sit-ins and takeovers of all-male bars.

One year to the day after the Women’s Strike for Equality March, Congress passed a resolution designating Aug. 26 as Women’s Equality Day, and 45 years later, the day continues to be a moment to reflect on exactly what has been achieves in the arena of women's rights.

With no Equal Rights Amendment in place for American women, and with the latest research from PEW affirming that over 70% of Republican men and 40% of Democrats believing that sexism is dead in America, older women are challenging younger ones to get real about deep refusal among American men to give women more rights. Particularly precarious for women are the Personhood bills littering state legislatures: Republican-sponsored laws that equates the rights of women with those of a fertilized embryo.

Bernie Sanders Launches Wall Street Slugfest With Hillary Clinton While A Reality Check Says Uber Capitalism Is Rampant Beyond Wall Street | Is Sanders Over Simplifying The Problem?

Bernie Sanders Launches Wall Street Slugfest With Hillary Clinton While A Reality Check Says Uber Capitalism Is Rampant Beyond Wall Street | Is Sanders Over Simplifying The Problem?

Bloomberg provides data suggesting that Bernie Sanders may have to break up the Fortune 500 as well. And super successful startups like Go Pro founder Nick Woodman (featured in photograph below)  -- off with their heads. Because business is even more egregious than Wall Street in paying its business executives. Think Bill Gates (no longer active in Microsoft management), Warren Buffett, Steve Jobs (dead), Amazon, Bloomberg, and the list of companies goes on. The multiplier between median staff salaries and executive compensation has skyrocketed in recent years.
A reality check voter knows that the problem is far more complex than breaking up the banks and making Wall Street the super villain. Not that we're in love with Wall Street. We are NOT.
We just think Hillary Clinton has a deeper understanding of the complexity of today's uber capitalism and the range of what can be accomplished in reforms. She probably also knows that Bernie's beloved Sweden now scores higher than the US in entrepreneurial startups. And guess what is happening in the country that has turned its economy around, because it was in the ditch with its old-school, socialist model? The problem is nowhere as bad as in America, but the executive vs worker salary gap is increasing substantially.
