Ana Jorge Gets High in The Cut February 2022 by Dan Beleiu | Anne Gets Higher

Model Ana Jorge flies in a spring 2022 fashion story from The Cut ‘Let’s Get High’ At Last. Optimism flows through the commentary by Cathy Horyn about spring fashion from Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Feben, Issey Miyake, Missoni, Peter Do, Proenza Schouler, Rick Owens and more styled by Jessica Willis./ Hair by Amidat; makeup by Lynski

Dan Beleiu [IG] is behind the lens for The Cut. Simply stated, Dan is everywhere — and we love it.

Movement is a key element of Dan’s images, as well as optimism. AOC has no doubt that Dan can do broody and dark, too, but especially his movement element is so right in this global moment.

Optimism and Heroism

At first I was writing that once again, our post-COVID optimism is ruined — this time by current events in Ukraine. But that’s not true.

The heroic Ukrainian people and the massive protests in support of Ukraine in Europe are fueling tremendous hope that liberal democracies aren’t dead and done. It’s a different kind of hope and optimism from spring 2022’s “free as a bird” imagery.

This heroic hope goes deep into our guts and global citizens identity, which is most often embraced by the creative class. It’s as if we all understand what is on the line in this blatantly autocratic, unprovoked attack by Putin against Ukraine.

AOC has looked at the map, and we understand why Putin is rattled. But like his good friend Donald Trump, Putin wants to take the world into a regressive place of darkness and autocracy.

The Ukrainian people aren’t having it, and their president Volodymyr Zelenskyy isn’t bowing down to Putin either. As Zelenskyy said:

'I need ammunition, not a ride'

The Ukrainians may even lose the battle short-term, but they have given us all a shot of much-needed adrenalin in not bowing down to tyrants.

You know those “dreadful” drones we libs hate? Well, not AOC. Get more drones to the Ukrainians pronto. Let them zap the hell out of that over [now] 40-mile long tanks convoy edging towards Kyiv.

Also, Ukraine is offering amnesty to Russian solders who put down their arms. If I were a Russian soldier in this mess, I would accept the offer. The whole world is watching, and the country of Ukraine can be trusted far more than Vladimir Putin.

We are all rallying to fight for Ukraine in every way possible. It is our duty if you believe in democracy, but a uniquely inspiring one in this moment when tyrants are running wild across the globe and in America.

So Spring 2022 is not lighthearted as fashionistas predicted it — now that we are living it. But something much more transformational may be at play.

Dan’s images are so very right-on beyond fashion, and they consistently give me psychological fortification. I thank him for that gift. ~ Anne
