Tory Burch Fall 2022 Campaign by Jamie Hawkesworth Exudes American Optimism
/Tory Burch showed their Spring 2023 Collection in New York yesterday, but AOC grounds us in the Tory Burch FW2022 campaign, just released. An all-star model lineup of Adut Akech, Amanda Murphy, Andreea Diaconu, Lina Zhang and Nora Attal powers their way through the streets of Manhattan with positive spirits and strong backbone body language.
Brian Molloy styles the campaign, with creative direction by Jaime Perlman. Photographer and director Jamie Hawkesworth [IG] creates perfect balance images of New York optimism and confidence, even when our backs are up against the wall.
Tory Burch, the designer and human being, really understands this American mindset.
In August, Hawkesworth shot Tory Burch ambassador Sydney Sweeny drifting through New York Harbor holding her Tory Burch Kira handbags close to her heart.
Becoming a Tory Burch ambassador in April 2022, the ‘Euphoria’ actor said:“I’ve been a fan of her clothing and accessories for years, and I admire her tireless work to support women. I’m inspired not only by Tory’s vision and the business she has built, but also by her kindness and philanthropy. I am so looking forward to the beautiful partnership and meaningful conversations to come.”
What Shall I Wear?: The What, Where, When, and How Much of Fashion, New Edition Hardcover – August 30, 2022
For the first time in years, Claire McCardell’s beloved fashion and style book What Shall I Wear is back in print.
To celebrate the occasion, the new edition includes a color insert of photos and a foreword by CFDA member Tory Burch.
Burch, an American fashion icon in her own right — now more than ever — finds inspiration in McCardell’s work: tributing McCardell in her Spring/Summer 2022 collection.
Burch did make a turn in her Spring 2023 presentation this week, perhaps ‘modernizing’ her commitment to following Claire McCadell’s heritage for the 21st century.
As always, Burch led with a strong commitment to ‘unencumbered’ design.
“If the shoe hurts, give it away,” is a McCardellism. Hence, my own love of flat or low-heel slingbacks or mules. Barefoot is optimal, but not on Manhattan streets.
“I started thinking about when I first moved to New York in the ’90s,” said Burch at her 2023 showing. “Even then, women didn’t want to be restricted, so we spent a lot of time developing fabrics that had all kinds of stretch and pieces that you could wear in different ways. I wanted it to be really focused.”
In September 2021, Tory Burch announced the establishment of the Tory Burch Claire McCardell Fashion Fellowship at the Maryland Center for History and Culture, which houses the pioneering sportswear designer’s archives.
Not only does Tory Burch design for the total woman, but she is one with a strong sense of civic responsibility and community involvement. In all honesty — as I’ve said multiple times in the last few months — the world doesn’t need another uber-successful young woman looking for her own truth, while having a weep-fest on Instagram.
“Oh, Anne,” you say. “Get with the program. Our young women are just looking for their own authenticity.”
I ask you: Are you involved enough in real activism and global politics to know that right-wingers just narrowly won the Swedish election on September 14?
Sweden — the progressive politics nation of the world with other Scandinavian countries — just swung right-wing. And I understand why.
