Natasha Poly & Aleksandra By Mario Testino For Vogue Paris October 2014 As 'Un Air De Famille'

Vogue Paris October is celebrating motherhood and leads off with the cover editorial of Natasha Poly and her daughter Aleksandra, lensed by Mario Testino. My first reaction is that stylist and Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Emmanuelle Alt has produced a style vision that screams Carine Roitfeld, but certainly without the edge of Crystal Renn’s 2010, Vogue Paris editorial, lensed by David Sims. Carine Roitfeld did a similar editorial in 2006, also using Mario Testino, with the cover story featuring Natalia Vodianova.

The most interesting aspect of motherhood in France is the government’s involvement in supporting new moms with a host of services not available in the US. As a result the birth rate among all groups of women in France is increasing. Also, France is committed to their new moms experiencing an identity of still being sensual and desirable as independent women and not redefined now exclusively as moms. This undercurrent of the French lifestyle is obvious in this rather tepid attempt to tell a story that Carine Roitfeld understands better than anyone.

ALL Mario Testino
ALL Natasha Poly
