Carmen Kass | Mario Sierra | 'Fierce' Femme Fatale | Elle Spain Oct 2010

We’re pulling together a series of ‘femme fatale’ editorials over at Sensuality News, but Carmen Kass for Elle Spain October 2010, lensed by Mario Sierra and styled by Inmaculada Jimenez belongs here at AOC.

Reading the comments at FGR, I had a thought about ‘fierce’ — as Carmen was called more than once — and ‘femme fatale’, which is Anne language.

I like that Carmen Kass doesn’t look like she’s going to kill everybody in sight. I mean with the Taliban and US drones in Pakistan, is a smile really so out of place in fashion? Carmen’s not smiling — god forbid that any serious model would smile in today’s fashion world, and especially on the runway — but she doesn’t like like she will bite your head off either.

So many fierce-looking models seem to be saying f*** you, an attitude that has great appeal with so many young women. I never understood it, coming out of the Campbell, Schiffer, Seymour, Crawford, et al group, where a pleasant face was allowed.

Self-confidence was still embraceable among the Supermodels, so I like hearing Carmen Kass called ‘fierce’ when I find her a seductive, femme fatale. Perhaps a turn in the road?
