Can America Sour on Sugar?

Can America really cut its sugar habit? via WSJThe American Heart Association has issued a strong advisory about eating less sugar. In a scientific statement, the AHA advises women to limit their sugar intake to 100 calories or about six teaspoons a day, and men 150 calories or nine teaspoons.

Data gathered during a national nutrition survey between 2001 and 2004 suggest that Americans consume on average 355 calories, or more than 22 teaspoons, of sugar a day.

This is the first time that the heart association has issued specific guidelines. The first give-up for Americans trying to follow the recommendation is a 12-ounce can of cola, containing 130 calories or eight teaspoons of sugar. via WSJ
