In his interview, stylist Panos Yiapanis expresses skepticism that fashion could be turning away from the size 0, no hips and no breasts body type preferred by fashion for the last 20 years — since the takedown of the original supermodels. Hence, he envisions this fetishized vision of females leaping far beyond having breasts and hips and a derriere into the land of the grotesque. Fashion hasn’t really lived here, ‘Boobs’ is a fashion reference we actually haven’t known in the last century — flying right over Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell (notably less muscular today), Linda Evangelista and all those other vava-voom women, totally dominating and — yes, sexual — supermodels who ruled the fashion world Versace style 25 years ago.
We will take up this subject in a Body Beat essay. If you know mega artist John Currin, you’ll see his influence in the images, presumably via the masterful Steven Klein who is a lover of strong, sexy women, even if Yiapanis considers them caricatures and way too hot for most men to handle. ~ Anne
