Mory Sacko at Louis Vuitton Opens in St. Tropez As First LV Freestanding Restaurant
/Turning 30, Mory Sacko, the French-West African chef behind the Michelin MoSuke restaurant in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, opened Louis Vuitton’s first free-standing restaurant in St.Tropez on June 17.
The new restaurant called Mory Sacko at Louis Vuitton is close to — but not in a LV store. The first free-standing Louis Vuitton restaurant in the world is located at Place des Lices, 83990 Saint-Tropez in the White 1921 Hotel.
According to Vuitton, the vegetable-heavy menu features “globe-trotting recipes where African and Japanese influences meet the know-how of French cuisine.” For lunch, Sacko plans to offer gourmet versions of the Japanese lunch box known as “ekiben,” here featuring glass containers on a bespoke wooden tray.

We didn’t get beyond the fact that Sacko is French by birth. His mother, who is from the Ivory Coast, grew up in Senegal and met his father in Mali. Meanwhile, Japan has been an obsession ever since he began poring over Manga comics as a teenager.
Putting together the list of American patrons at Mory Sacko at Louis Vuitton this summer, I tabled for the moment Jay-Z and Beyonce and checked for LVMH’s Nigo, now at the helm of Kenzo, and his Bathing Ape Manga influences. And of course Pharrell Williams finds his inner child in Manga, while hanging out with Nigo. So the summer in St. Tropez guest list is forming in our mind.
