Model Lauren Wasser is styled by Shaojun Chen in cozy sophistication for Glass Magazine China Issue 16. LA-based Korean-American fashion and fine art photographer Sam Spence [IG] is behind the lens.
In her bio Spence says that she is the second youngest photographer in history to shoot a Vogue cover. Adopted from Korea as a baby, and raised in the Midwestern United States, Spence became a creative at a young age, frustrated by a lack of diversity in her circle of people. Her training as a contemporary dancer has influenced her love for capturing movement and the human body in its unique form.

Lauren Wasser regularly forgets that she doesn’t have legs. "All the time," she says, laughing. "And my girlfriend forgets, my mother forgets... When I’m wearing trousers, you can’t even tell." In fact, her gleaming gold prosthetic limbs have become an integral part of her identity.
The Paris sitdown takes place exactly 10 years to the day since the golden girl Wasser was first hospitalised with toxic-shock syndrome [TSS]. The model went into organ failure, had a heart attack and underwent a double-leg amputation.
Lauren Wasser is back now as ‘the Girl with the Golden Legs’, working with luxury brands including closing the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2023 show in San Diego, Wasser’s birth place.

Tangentially, learning about Wasser’s story and activism took us into the drive for period justice for women living in every nation of the world. We are speaking of America in this discussion, where many women cannot afford to buy their monthly menstruation-protection products — a reality called “period poverty”.
