Manhattan Judge Rules That Harvey Weinstein Case Will Proceed To March 7 Pre-Trial Hearing

Disgraced Hollywood media mogul Harvey Weinstein, a key catalyst behind the widely-revived #MeToo movement, will be going to trial. On Thursday Judge James Burke rejected Weinstein’s legal request to dismiss the remaining five counts of sexual misconduct and rape charged by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. The case is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on March 7. The judge previously dismissed one of the initial sex counts involving allegations by Lucia Evans.

Vanity Fair writes that the courtroom was packed with reporters and supporters of the Time’s Up movement. Actors Marisa Tomei, Kathy Najimy, and Amber Tamblyn joined Time’s Up President and CEO Lisa Borders, who said that she was “relieved that Harvey Weinstein failed” in his efforts to have the charges dismissed.

The case remains complicated, especially after the dismissal of one count against Weinstein. With the case proceeding, Judge Burke’s rulings around evidence will heavily influence the case.

Attorney Alan Dershowitz, who was brought on by Weinstein’s lead attorney Ben Brafman as a consultant, says defense emails contradict claims that the sexual encounters were forced.

Ousted CBS CEO Les Moonves Told Woman Doctor 20 Yrs Ago He Can't Control Sexual Urges

“He said that he had a terrible problem, that he basically couldn’t control himself when alone with a woman.”

Reading these words by ousted CBS CEO Les Moonves -- written in an apologetic note to a UCLA woman doctor he attacked, after she was requested to handle the VIP client at a 7am meeting -- I find them just staggering.

This man has overseen the careers of how many women at CBS -- to say nothing of Charlie Rose? Moonves was ousted today without a severance package, over Ronan Farrow's new article in which 6 new women including knowledge about the doctor came forward. The women were furious that CBS seemed to not be responding to the first claims against Moonves.

The women were also totally disgusted that Les Moonves was turning truth against the #MeToo movement, arguing that the sex was all consensual. Yet the words written to the woman doctor had to roll around in his brain some days.

This week I learned that Moonves tried to destroy Janet Jacson over the NFL nip slip, while dishing no pain to her partner in the accident Justin Timberlake.

#MeToo Leader Asia Argento Paid Her Own 17 Year-Old Accuser $380,000 For His Silence

I slept in this am, being just drained from work. I read yesterday about CNN making a documentary about the extraordinary human Anthony Bourdain, who committed suicide a few months ago. I miss him so much.

And now I wake up this morning to read that Bourdain's girlfriend Asia Argento, one of Harvey Weinstein's chief accusers of rape in 1997 and a leading figure in the #MeToo movement, quietly arranged to pay $380,000 for her own alleged assault against Jimmy Bennett when he was 17 and she 37.

Harvey Weinstein Arrested On Friday Morning & Now Under Arraignment In Manhattan

Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein is pictured by New York Magazine, arriving at a lower Manhattan police station early Friday, turning himself in to face a series of charges related to his aggressive sexual tactics with women.

Weinstein was immediately arrested, the NYPD confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter and then charged with rape, a criminal sex act, sex abuse, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for his behavior with two women. Arraignment will happen later today.

A statement released by the NYPD thanked "these brave survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice".

New York Atty General Eric Schneiderman (NOW RESIGNED) Accused By Four Women Of Staggering Physical & Violent Abuse

New York Atty General Eric Schneiderman Accused By Four Women Of Staggering Physical & Violent Abuse

In a staggering article written by Jane Mayer and Ronan Farrow for The New Yorker, an explosive report released Monday evening, Eric Schneiderman, the Attorney General of New York has been accused of nonconsensual physical violence by four women with whom has has had romantic relationships or encounters.

Two of the four women, Michelle Manning Barish and Tanya Selvaratnam, have talked to The New Yorker on the record, in order to protect other women.

"They allege that he repeatedly hit them, often after drinking, frequently in bed and never with their consent. Manning Barish and Selvaratnam categorize the abuse he inflicted on them as “assault.” They did not report their allegations to the police at the time, but both say that they eventually sought medical attention after having been slapped hard across the ear and face, and also choked. Selvaratnam says that Schneiderman warned her he could have her followed and her phones tapped, and both say that he threatened to kill them if they broke up with him."

A third former romantic partner of Schneiderman’s told Manning Barish and Selvaratnam that he also repeatedly subjected her to nonconsensual physical violence, but she told them that she is too frightened of him to come forward. (The New Yorker has independently vetted the accounts that they gave of her allegations.) A fourth woman, an attorney who has held prominent positions in the New York legal community, says that Schneiderman made an advance toward her; when she rebuffed him, he slapped her across the face with such force that it left a mark that lingered the next day. She recalls screaming in surprise and pain, and beginning to cry, and says that she felt frightened. She has asked to remain unidentified, but shared a photograph of the injury with 'The New Yorker'.

In a statement, Schneiderman said, “In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity. I have not assaulted anyone. I have never engaged in nonconsensual sex, which is a line I would not cross.”

Schneiderman's activism on behalf of feminist causes is legendary, and he has assumed an aggressive position in the investigation of Harvey Weinstein's activities in New York State.

Guided by the belief that "If a woman cannot control her body, she is not truly equal." Schneiderman has taken a particularly strong stand on behalf of women's reproductive rights. But, as Manning Barish sees it, “you cannot be a champion of women when you are hitting them and choking them in bed, and saying to them, ‘You’re a fucking whore.’ ” She says of Schneiderman’s involvement in the Weinstein investigation, “How can you put a perpetrator in charge of the country’s most important sexual-assault case?” Selvaratnam describes Schneiderman as “a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” figure, and says that seeing him lauded as a supporter of women has made her “feel sick,” adding, “This is a man who has staked his entire career, his personal narrative, on being a champion for women publicly. But he abuses them privately. He needs to be called out.”

Bill Cosby Found Guilty On Three Counts of Sexual Assault, Climaxing Years Of Victim Stories

A Norristown, Pa jury found Bill Cosby, one of the world's best-known entertainers, guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his nearby home 14 years ago. The jury reached its verdict on its second day of deliberations at the Montgomery County Courthouse, convicting Cosby of three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand.

"The three counts — penetration with lack of consent, penetration while unconscious, and penetration after administering an intoxicant — are felonies, each punishable by up to 10 years in state prison, though the sentences could be served concurrently", writes The New York Times.

The guilty verdicts are serious -- penetration with lack of consent, penetration while unconscious, and penetration after administering an intoxicant -- are felonies, each carrying a prison sentence of up to 10 years. The sentences could be served concurrently.

An earlier trial in the summer of 2017 ended with a deadlocked jury that deliberated for six days.

Viola Davis Tells Women in the World She Was #MeToo Before It Became A Hash Tag

Two of AOC's favorite women were in the house Thursday night, when MSNBC host and author Joy-Ann Reid sat down with Viola Davis at the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center at the close of the first day of the 2018 Women in the World Summit. The Hollywood Reporter recaps the exchange

Davis spoke positively about changes coming to Hollywood, saying: “Yes, I do see a moment becoming a movement. I do see a conversation happening. .. . I am a producer, and in the producing realm, people are always looking for female-driven narratives."

“They’re very conscious about hiring female directors. Women are much more aggressive out there in terms of getting what they want. Now we are bold. ... We’re raising a defense fund for women so if they want to prosecute their predator, it’s there for them.”

Continuing in her positive conversational vein, Davis said:  “I see women wanting to be the change that they want to be. Now me, I’ve always been aware because I was involved in the movement before it was a hashtag." Davis was referencing her work with the rape treatment center at UCLA, headed by Gail Abarbanel.

France Reflects On Having No Age Of Sexual Consent, Even For A 10-Year-Old Girl Legally Raped In Many Countries

Writing for The AtlanticMarie Doezema zeroes in on a case in France involving an 11-year-old girl. one that 50 years later has sparked a moment of moral and legal reckoning. The event happened in April, 2017, when a 28-year-old-man met an 11-year-old girl in a park in Montmagny, a small town of 14,000 people in northern France.

After congenial conversation with her that involved no coercion, the man said he would be happy to show the young girl how to kiss. She did go home with the man, and it's not clear from reading the reports when the girl showed the man her schoolbooks to establish her age. The victim says she did; the accused insists that she did not.

“She thought … that she didn’t have the right to protest, that it wouldn’t make any difference,” the mother told Mediapart, a French investigative site which first reported on the allegations of the case. The accusations were of an adult raping a child—a crime that, in France, can lead to a 20-year prison sentence for the perpetrator when the victim is 15 or younger.

Facts are that the case was not proceeding towards a rape charge.  Initially, the man was charged with “sexual infraction,” a crime punishable with a maximum of five years in jail and a €75,000 fine. Under French law, a charge of rape requires “violence, coercion, threat, or surprise,” even if the victims are age 11 or 12, as the girl in the Montmagny case.

“She was 11 years and 10 months old, so nearly 12 years old,” defense lawyer Marc Goudarzian said. Sandrine Parise-Heideiger, his fellow defense lawyer, added: “We are not dealing with a sexual predator on a poor little faultless goose.”

White House Staff Secy Rob Porter Resigns After Explosive Reports On Marital Abuse With Both Ex-Wives

Trump's White House Communications Director Hope Hicks is said to be dating White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter, 40. This snap taken 10 days ago was featured in The Daily Mail's explosive report on Porter's two past marriages and claims by both wives of physical and emotional abuse. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced this afternoon that Porter will be stepping down.

Porter's first wife, Colbie Holderness, told the DM that Porter punched her in the face during a trip to Florence in the early 2000s, and she provided photos of her black eye.

Rob Porter, served as the staff secretary and often controlled the paper flow to President Trump’s desk, along with his daily schedule. Porter also oversaw the White House’s policy implementation process and worked closely with Chief of Staff John F. Kelly to try to instill discipline in the chaotic West Wing. He spent hours of the day with Trump and frequently traveled with him on Air Force One.

Porter’s second ex-wife, Jennifer Willoughby, received a temporary emergency protective order in June 2010 after complaining he refused to leave her residence, in violation of their separation agreement.

Wynn Resorts Stock Plunges 9% on WSJ Report On Serial Sexual Misconduct By Steve Wynn, RNC Finance Chair

Wynn Resorts Stock Plunges 9% on WSJ Report On Serial Sexual Misconduct By Steve Wynn

Wynn Resorts stock plunged 9 percent Friday on a report by The Wall Street Journal that billionaire CEO Steve Wynn engaged in sexual misconduct for many years. The Journal reported, writes CNBC,  that dozens of current and former employees "told of behavior that cumulatively would amount to a decades-long pattern of sexual misconduct." Some described being pressured into performing sex acts with him.

In the case of a manicurist, the woman's supervisor filed a detailed report to the casino's human-resources department after the woman returned from Wynn's office sobbing, explaining that she said no and explained to Wynn that she was married. Ultimately she did disrobe and they had sex. People familiar with the incident told WSJ that Wynn paid the manicurist a $7.5 million settlement, and his lawyers have admitted that the payment was made.

{. . . }

Steve Wynn donated $729,217 to the inauguration of President Donald Trump, who has called him a "great friend." Wynn also serves as the Republican National Committee's finance chairman.

The RNC skewered the DNC for taking campaign cash from Harvey Weinstein, demanding that the tainted contributions be returned.  Following this part of the story, The Daily Beast says that numerous Democrats ended up giving their Weinstein donations to either charities or "political groups who work to elect progressive female lawmakers. " Officials like GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said the actions were insufficient, writing on Twitter: If the DNC truly stands up for women like they say they do, then returning Weinstein's dirty money should be a no-brainer. The Daily Beast writes:

The RNC, which last year chose not to distance itself from another official credibly accused of sexual harassment—Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore—did not respond to a request for comment as to whether they would now do the same. Nor did Sean Spicer, the president’s former press secretary and the committee’s former top strategist, who was particularly aggressive in criticizing Democrats after the Weinstein revelations.

USA Gymnastics Doctor Larry Nassar Sentenced To 175 Years Max For Sexual Crimes Against Female Gymnasts

This despicable doctor, the former team doctor for USA Gymnastics and team doctor at Michigan State University,  Larry Nassar does not believe he did anything wrong. I couldn't even work when Wednesday's drama began. Many current and former gymnasts, including gold medalists McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Simone Biles, say they are among the girls and young women sexually abused by Nassar under the guise of medical treatment.

Nasser pleaded guilty in November to seven counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Judge Rosemarie Aquilina ended the drama by sentencing Nassar to up to 175 years in prison, after 156 women and girls made victim-impact statements over seven days of court proceedings. The chief prosecutor, Michigan Assistant Attorney General Angela Povilaitis credited investigative reporters at The Indianapolis Star and former gymnast Rachael Denhollander for bringing Nasser's long-hidden crimes to light.

When Judge Aquilina read portions of Nasser's letter to the court, I gasped. Nasser made that classic comment about women "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." This criminal, sexual assaulter totally sees himself as a victim, agreeing he had child porn on his computers for years, but totally denying that he is a deviant, guilty of criminal behavior to these girls.

Angelina Jolie Criticizes UN Peacekeepers For Not Tackling Global Violence Against Women Art of Living

Angelina Jolie remains one of the strongest voices for women worldwide, and she did not hold back in addressing the UN Peacekeeping Defense Ministerial Conference in Vancouver on Tuesday with her keynote speech.

“Sexual violence is everywhere – in the industry where I work, in business, in universities, in politics, in the military, and across the world,” she said during her keynote address on Wednesday. “All too often, these kinds of crimes against women are laughed off, depicted as a minor offense by someone who cannot control themselves, as an illness, or as some kind of exaggerated sexual need,” she continued. “But a man who mistreats women is not oversexed. He is abusive.”

Two New Accusers Come Out Against Republican Senate Candidate Roy Moore

Two New Accusers Come Out Against Republican Senate Candidate Roy Moore

Tina Johnson

Two more accusers of sexual misconduct came forward tonight against Alabama Republican Senate race candidate Roy Moore. Al.com reports late Wednesday that Tina Johnson alleged that in the fall of 1999 (when Moore was married) she sat in Moore's law office with her mother Mary Katherine Cofield.

Moore began flirting with her from the moment she walked into Moore's office, alleged Johnson.

"He kept commenting on my looks, telling me how pretty I was, how nice I looked," recalled Johnson. "He was saying that my eyes were beautiful."

It made her uncomfortable. "I was thinking, can we hurry up and get out of here?"

Johnson was in a difficult period of her life, and in the process of signing over custody of her son to her mother. As she left the office, Johnson recalled that Moore grabbed her buttocks.

"He didn't pinch it; he grabbed it," said Johnson. She was so surprised she didn't say anything. She didn't tell her mother.

Swedish Film Institute (SHI) Considers New Rules For Training On Sexual Harassment In Industry

Swedisn Film Institute (SHI) Considers New Rules For Training On Sexual Harassment In Industry

The Swedish Film Institute (SFI) is responding with lightening speed to the recent #MeToo letter signed by nearly 600 local actresses, including Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (above), calling out harassment and abuse in Sweden's film, theater industry.

SFI head Anna Serner's proposal, which requires board approval, stipulates that production companies seeking public funding attend free educational seminars, likely one or two per year, that would cover issues, such as sexual harassment, gender equality and diversity.

Asserting “zero tolerance against sexual exploitation and violence” the letter signatories demanded that employers, from film companies and theaters to book publishers and Swedish television networks, “stop protecting, hiring and making money on perpetrators” of sexual violence.

Writing on her blog, Serner said the #MeToo movement could only truly change the culture "if there are consequences" and called for zero tolerance of sexual harassment. The problem, writes Serner, is about power and an industry decision to profit from known abusers.

Beverly Young Nelson Details Roy Moore Assault On Her As 16-Year-Old Waitress

Beverly Young Nelson Details Roy Moore Assault On Her As 16-Year-Old Waitress

In one of the most compelling moments I've ever witnessed on television, Beverly Young Nelson voiced in vivid, graphic detail her 1977 attack by Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore. Nelson becomes the fifth woman -- and probably the most serious accuser -- along with Leigh Corfman. Nelson was quick to say that both she and her husband voted for Donald Trump and her claims have nothing to do with politics. It was reading the stories of the other women that prompted Beverly Young Nelson to come forward.

Represented by Gloria Allard, who specializes in sexual harassment and sexual assault cases, Nelson recounted Mr. Moore's attack on her when she was 16 and a waitress in a Gadsden, Alabama and he was a prosecutor in Etowah County, Ala. The Daily Beast details her testimony about that night.

Earlier in the evening, Moore had signed Nelson's yearbook -- which Nelson produced at the news conference -- and later offered her a ride home. Instead of getting on the highway, she alleges, Moore parked in the back of the Olde Hickory House restaurant. Nelson said she asked Moore what he was doing.

“Instead of answering my question, Mr. Moore reached over and began groping me, putting his hands on my breasts,” Nelson said weeping. “I tried to open my car door to leave, but he reached over and locked it so I could not get out. I tried fighting him off, while yelling at him to stop, but instead of stopping he began squeezing my neck attempting to force my head onto his crotch. I continued to struggle. I was determined that I was not going to allow him to force me to have sex with him. I was terrified. He was also trying to pull my shirt off. I thought that he was going to rape me. I was twisting and struggling and begging him to stop. I had tears running down my face.

Gloria Allred Will Present A New Accuser Of Alabama Senate Candidate Roy Moore Monday At 2:30 PM

Gloria Allred Will Present A New Accuser Of Alabama Senate Candidate Roy Moore Monday At 2:30 PM

The New York Post reports that at 2:30 pm Monday, Gloria Allred has scheduled a news conference at the New York Palace Hotel, where another woman will accuse Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexually assaulting her when she was a minor.

"The New accuser wishes to state what she alleges Roy Moore did to her without her consent," Allred said in a statement.

The Washington Post broke the heavily detailed story late last week, in which now grown women alleged that Moore pursued them as teenagers when he was in his 30s. The most explosive accusation came from Leigh Corfman, who was 14 years old when she alleges Roy Moore took her to his house in the woods and molested her.

On a second visit, she says, he took off her shirt and pants and removed his clothes. He touched her over her bra and underpants, she says, and guided her hand to touch him over his underwear.

LA District Attorney Jackie Lacey Forms Entertainment Industry Sexual Assault Task Force

Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey announced Thursday the formation of a task force organized to respond to claims of sexual abuse in the entertainment industry, writes New York Magazine

“I have assigned the group of veteran sex crimes prosecutors to work together to ensure a uniformed approach to the legal review and possible prosecution of any case that meets both the legal and factual standards for criminal prosecution,” Lacey continued.

NYPD Taking Paz de la Huerta's 2010 Rape Claims Against Weinstein Very Seriously, Saying They Would Arrest Him In New York City

Actor Paz de la Huerta accused Harvey Weinstein of two instances of rape earlier this week, alleging that twice in 2010 he forced himself on her. Although the events happened seven years ago. An important factor in the investigation of Paz de la Huerta's claims is documentation provided by her therapist, who provided a letter outlining her memories of the sessions devoted to the alleged assaults by Weinstein. TIME reports that another individual has corroborated parts of the story, and additional subpoenas have been issued.

Wall Street's Howie Rubin Named In $27 Million Lawsuit Alleging Extreme BDSM Brutality & Rape

Well-known Wall Street portfolio manager Howie Rubin was named in a $27 million Brooklyn federal lawsuit filed Thursday. The New York Post broke the story in which Rubin, the legendary big shot featured in best-selling books 'Liar's Poker' and 'The Big Short', is charged with engaging in brutal sex with women paid between $2,000 and $5,000 per session.

The lawsuit alleges that the three plaintiffs -- including two Playboy Playmates -- allege that Rubin, the married father of three, gagged, tied up and viciously abused them in an $8 million penthouse in Manhattan's Metropolitan Tower with a side room fitted with ropes, chains, sex toys and other BDSM equipment.

“I’m going to rape you like I rape my daughter,” Rubin barked during one of the alleged assaults.

In one session, he beat one of the women’s “breasts so badly that her right implant flipped,” the papers state. The former Bear Stearns trader paid her $20,000 to repair the damage.

Sexual Misconduct & More Claims From Men Mount Against Actor Kevin Spacey

Sexual Misconduct & More Claims From Men Mount Against Actor Kevin Spacey

A publicist for actor Kevin Spacey says that the Oscar-winning actor is seeking treatment as accusations from other men against Spacey in the aftermath of the accusation by actor Anthony Rapp that Spacey was guilty of sexual misconduct with him.

The New York Times reports that many of the accusations against Mr. Spacey involve actions taking place when he was artistic director of the Old Vic theater in London, a position he held for 11 years, until 2015.

Former employees and actors associated with the Old Vic argue that the London theatre and many associated with it turned "a blind eye to inappropriate sexual behaviour by the 11 years that the Hollywood star was its artistic director", writes The Guardian
