/Superstar actor Cate Blanchett returns, this time in AnOther Magazine’s Spring-Summer 2023 issue, lensed by Harley Weir [IG]. The actor is styled by Robbie Spencer in Alexander McQueen, Gabriela Hearst, Issey Miyake, Junya Watanabe, Steve O Smith, Y/Project and more.
Blanchett talks to The Argonauts author Maggie Nelson about power, ambiguity – and her award-winning performance as Lydia Tár. The highly-acclaimed film is struggling at the box office. And even some reviewers find the film to be a gut punch.
Marin Alsop is an American conductor, the first woman to win the Koussevitzky Prize for conducting and the first conductor to be awarded a MacArthur Fellowship — the latter regarded to be in near-Nobel Prize prestige.
The Guardian writes: “Tár, the US conductor told the Sunday Times, was “anti-woman” and a personal affront. The film could have told the story of a rapacious male monster, but chose instead to make its lead a female conductor. “To have an opportunity to portray a woman in that role and to make her an abuser,” Alsop said. “For me, that was heartbreaking.”’
Blanchett is heavily favored to take a Best Actress Award for Tár at the Oscars. Cate has already locked down a Golden Globes Best Actress award and also a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Es Devlin at Tate Modern October 2022
In October Cartier commissioned ‘Come Home Again’, for the Tate Modern. The “choral sculpture” consisted of hundreds of creatures, each hand-drawn by Devlin. “I was working with the London Wildlife Trust and identified 243 species, which are most at-risk in London,” she explained. “And I decided I would try and draw all 243 of them, which sometimes came to 18 hours of drawing a day.” This painstaking process has culminated into a beautiful supersize structure fashioned in the shape of St Paul’s Cathedral. In the month of September at sunset each night, three choirs performed evensong within the artwork, inviting us to stop and pay attention to the nature – what Devlin calls the “non-human Londoners” – around us.

/Star actor Cate Blanchett is set to play the indefatigable anti-ERA activist Phyllis Schlafly. It remains one of the most astounding realities of modern life that one American constitutional lawyer. born in St. Louis, Missouri with a law degree from Washington University, a large family and conservative husband, hit the road and brought the Equal Rights Amendment to a grinding halt.
Arguing for traditional roles for women in American society, the self-described activist housewife Schlafly went to battle against Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Shirley Chisholm, Bella Abzug and Jill Ruckelhaus. And she beat them.
Cate Blanchett is executive producing ‘Mrs. America’, in the upcoming limited nine-episodes series for FX, which is written and narrated through the lens of Schlafly’s feminist opponents. ‘Mrs. America’ is being written by Dahvi Waller, the Emmy-winning writer and producer of ‘Mad Men’, another show deeply rooted in evolving gender dyhamics in 20th century America.
"I am extremely excited about delving into the material as there couldn’t be a more appropriate time to peel back the layers of this recent period of history, which couldn’t be more relevant today," Blanchett said in a statement.
