Vogue Greece January 2024 'the Animal Issue' by Richard Phibbs with Kris Grikaite

One of the world’s best-known animal whisperers — photographer Richard Phibbs — arrives today. He brings images that convince us all to breathe deeply and focus on Vogue Greece’s January 2024 ‘the animal issue’. For a little while, the angst about our globe lifts.

Top model Kris Grikaite is visually at peace with creatures more devoted to humans, than we are to them in most cases. Nicholas Georgiou styled the shoot and he is equally impacted by the experience, as the rest of the cast.

“The Vogue Greece January issue welcomes the New Year in the sweetest and most caring way, with an issue dedicated to our love of animals. Famous photographer @richardphibbs, a known advocate of animal rights, captures @kris_grikaite with animals that now live in shelters waiting to be fostered or adopted.”

The animals are not sedated or harmed in any way, abiding by all international agreements around animal welfare.

Angelina Jolie Tells WSJ She Is More At Home With Refugees Than in Hollywood

Angelina Jolie Tells WSJ She Is More At Home With Refugees Than in Hollywood

Actor, humanitarian, mother and global leader is profiled in the December 2023 issue of WSJ Magazine, with deeply personal photographs of Jolie wearing offerings from Atelier Jolie, shot by Annemarieke Van Drimmelen [IG] with styling by Tonne Goodman.

One of the most profound realities that she discussed with WSJ is her favorite people to spend time with.

“There’s a reason people who have been through hardship are also much more honest and much more connected, and I am more relaxed with them. Why do I like spending time with people who’ve survived and are refugees? They’ve confronted so much in life that it brings forward not just strength, but humanity.”

Anne of Carversville has trekked behind Jolie on all of her endeavors since 2007. She is the founding muse of this website — a reality that disturbs many men.

Many of them cannot stand Jolie, and I truly do not know why. Perhaps I should ask my AI assistant Lulu to investigate this question.

EmRata Wears Victor & Rolf Couture in Numero #243, Talks Being "A Body, Not a Mind”

Victor & Rolf muse Emily Ratajkowski, aka EmRata, is interviewed by newly-named head of the culture Violaine Schütz [IG], for Numero #243 out now.

Not all French women are so positive about a declared feminist like EmRata. Remember when French Vogue March 2022 ran a cover message that we’re living in a post feminist world now and there’s no need for women to be divisive any longer . . .

Schütz zeroes in on a key EmRata theme: " You thought you were a mind, but you're a body "

Mario Testino’s ‘Master Class’ Resonates for Women’s Rights in 2024 Election

Mario Testino’s ‘Master Class’ Resonates for Women’s Rights in 2024 Election

Always commenting on fashion stories beyond any style trend, AOC wrote in 2011:

Fall’s strict attitude borders on religious fervor but also brings to mind the fact that the new Dutch republic was the most prosperous nation in Europe, leading the continent in trade, science and art. This came about at the end of the European religious wars that spawned the Protestant Reformation and revolt against the Catholic Church.

Anne’s Reflections

As I reposted this ‘Master Class’ 2011 fashion story by Mario Testino for British Vogue, I found myself thinking about American history back to the founding of our country and also the changes in the last 50 years of America.

It was a Protestant-dominant, moderate US Supreme Court who gave women the right to abortion and contraception in 1973, based on constitutional arguments.

Five decades later, a disproportionately-conservative, Catholic-dominant Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade with the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.

This Roberts court is not finished giving state governments absolute control over women’s bodies. AOC will educate readers and fight for the return of our hard-won rights in the 2024 elections. ~ Anne

Banana Republic Winter 2023/24 Campaign Taps Josh Olins

Shot in Norway by Josh Olins [IG] with creative direction by Remi Paringaux and Ryan Spacey, the campaign acknowledges — not only the majesty of nature — but indirectly, its fragility.

Banana Republic is introducing new cashmere items connected to this campaign, including this Caro Lightweight Cashmere Cardigan [website] in 12 colors.

Refusing to promote cashmere without clarity on its sourcing standards as verified by outside agencies, Anne of Carversville notes that Banana Republic cashmere is part of an initiative called The Good Cashmere Standard (GCS).

Missoni FW 2023.24 Images Come As Italian Luxury House Explores Full Sale

Models Liv Walters, Maty Fall and Yang Ling deliver recognizable Missoni spirit to fall/winter 2023/24 imagery at a time when the Italian heritage house has retained Rothschild to explore a full sale of the company.

In 2018 Italian investment fund FSI injected 70 million euros into the house, for 41% of the business, with the remaining shares held by the Missoni family.

From AOC’s angle of vision, the Italian heritage brands have never been so desirable — and from a cultural-creatives, values-based proposition, not modern values which say “s[he] who wears the most wealth on her back wins.”

Zara Ad Reminds Me: Christians, Jews, Muslims All Believe in Weeping Angels

Jackets Without a Good Fit

Zara has removed this controversial advertising campaign from the front page of its website after pro-Palestine activists called for an international boycott of the retailer.

Inditex, the company that owns Zara, said on Monday that the photos were taken in September 2023, before the current war erupted between Hamas and Israel. The creative brief was approved in July — which makes sense to AOC.

However alert to perceptions gone wrong, I myself was in the process of writing about my night at the Louvre in Paris 20 years ago, marveling over the jazz-evening setup with the statuary in seeming disarray, strewn like these images but with blue strobe lights for extra effect.

Only when I went to Zara’s IG did I realize that something was very wrong with the campaign.

Virtual reality is set to transform the spa landscape. By transporting guests into serene virtual environments, VR experiences can enhance relaxation and provide an escape from everyday stresses. More exciting, VR can transport us back in time, so that we might join our human ancestors in community based rituals, for example.

Tom Ford does not need fixing in the minds of Estee Lauder, the business tean at Zegna or Hawkings himself. In that case, who is better than Peter Hawkings to inherit the Tom Ford design mantle and not be obsessed with turning a design vision inside out to make it “his own.”
