Harry Styles' Vogue Cover by Tyler Mitchell Creates Second Issue Run, 40,000 New Subscriptions

English singer, songwriter and actor Harry Styles is partial to gender-bending attire, much as Mick Jagger, Kurt Kobain and David Bowie were back in the day. We’re talking 50 years ago.

For people of a certain age Harry Styles being the first man to go solo on Vogue’s December cover — or any American Vogue cover — was not worthy of breaking the Internet. Wrong.

Harry Styles is considered to be a fashion provocateur, given his status as major muse to Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele. For fashionistas, Harry Styles wearing a dress or two for Vogue was not a big deal, but even Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez felt compelled to come to his defense.

“Perhaps for some people it provokes some anger or insecurity around masculinity/femininity/etc. If it does, then maybe that’s part of the point. Sit with that reaction and think about it, examine it, explore it, engage it, and grow with it, “ the all-knowing beyond her years, pundit-politico advised Twitter-world.

In fact, the Harry Styles interview with Vogue’s Hamish Bowles is quite good, so read it. Camilla Nickerson styles the shoot with images by Tyler Mitchell. Move onto Vogue to see the product credits and read Playtime With Harry Styles’.

“Clothes are there to have fun with and experiment with and play with. What’s really exciting is that all of these lines are just kind of crumbling away,” Styles says. “There’s so much joy to be had in playing with clothes. I’ve never really thought too much about what it means—it just becomes this extended part of creating something.”

Candice, Irina, Joan in 'Human After All' by Rowan Papier for Vogue Greece December 2020

Candice, Irina, Joan in 'Human After All' by Rowan Papier for Vogue Greece December 2020

Three of the world’s top models — Candice Swanepoel, Irina Shayk and Joan Smalls cover four December 2020 covers for Vogue Greece, each with the tagline ‘Human After All’. Anna Katsanis styles the covers and editorial content in which pays the three women speak about the value of activism, urging us to look beyond the images — in this case captured by Rowan Papier (IG).

Since its relaunch in March, 2019 Vogue Greece, helmed by editor-in-chief Thaleia Karafyllidou, the youngest Vogue EIC at age 29, the magazine has delved more deeply into topics that matter than sister Vogues.

Clearly in our new COVID-19 world and its worldwide protests around sustainability and racial justice, a Vogue editorial reset was playing out at the beginning of 2020. But Greece had already endured a decade of austerity, prompting Karafyllidou to tell Vogue Australia in April 2019: “ . . . We are bringing the Vogue brand back to the country in a new era where ‘luxury’ has been redefined. It’s not just about a beautiful pair of shoes or a handbag – now ‘luxury’ is your free time and the time that you spend offline.”

Ulla Johnson Fall 2020 Campaign by Yelena Yemchuk | Ulla's Tears for Jacob Blake

Ulla Johnson Fall 2020 Campaign by Yelena Yemchuk | Ulla's Tears for Jacob Blake

The spirits of female nomads permeate Ulla Johnson’s Fall 2020 collection, filmed in this new campaign video , shot in the unfamiliar terrain of Long Island’s North Fork and starring Indira Scott and Jordan Daniels. April Hughes styles the shoot with images by Yelena Yemchuk.

AOC is not surprised to visit Ulla Johnson’s Instagram and immediately discover a tribute to Jacob Blake. Any designer who works with artisans in Peru and Kenya, while living in Ft. Green, Brooklyn is probably committed to the Black Lives Matter movement. Ulla writes:

“This is Jacob Blake. He was shot seven times in the back in front of his children. The cycle of violence in our country must come to an end. The moment is now for us to join our voices in unison to demand change at the local, state, and federal level, to cast out the current regime, to retrain our police officers, to fund our social workers, to unite our actions against a system that perpetuates racist violence.”

At this moment, Anne hears activists in Washington, DC gathered on this important day in America’s racial history. Jacob Blake’s sister is speaking, as he lies in a hospital bed paralyzed— BUT SHACKLED !!! — to his bed.

August 28: Anne’s Annual Day of Reflection

Today is the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, held in Washington, DC on Wednesday, August 28, 1963. It’s also the anniversary of the brutal murder of the young, 14-year-old Emmett Till in 1955.

It’s also my birthday, and so the day of August 28, — one that should be spent in quiet celebration — is always a day of deep reflection for me about America’s original sin of slavery. Even more painful is the reality that decades later systemic racism is worse than ever in our country — best exemplified by the presidency of Donald Trump.

The power of the project for Serena lies in Stuart Weitzman’s alliance with the Vital Voices Global Partnership  Tapped to choose two women leaders to participate with her in the campaign, Williams tapped Ashlee Wisdom and Sage Ke’alohilani Quiamno. Wisdom is the founder of  Health in Her Hue, a platform that connects black women to culturally competent health-care providers. Ke’alohilani Quiamno, founder of Future for Us, a civic organization that gives women of color the tools to succeed in the highest levels of corporate and social-sector careers.

Alexis Ohanian Sr. Resigns from Reddit Board

It’s Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian Sr.that made the big news today — June 8 — as word of his resignation from the board of directors of Reddit traveled through media channels. The co-founder of Reddit recommended that his spot be filled by a Black candidate amid activists’ calls for more representation of BlPOC in positions of power in global companies.

I'm doing this for me, for my family, and for my country." Along with the statement to the public, Ohanian embedded a video message from his Instagram account onto his blog entry, and in it he reiterates his original statement.

Hinduism is rich in symbolism and the color blue — especially in one’s skin— is a symbol of the infinite and immeasurable. Many gods in India are shown as blue-skinned. They include Shiva, Krishna, Rama and more. They are referenced as blue gods because they have attained a blue aura.

I’m not keen on commenting on fashion editorials without having been part of the convo around their creation. I’ve actually had some real run-ins with men in India’s Hindu community over fashion editorials they consider to be blasphemous. These total right-wing nationalists love Donald Trump, so that’s telling you everything you need to know. Women have no real relevance in their world view, and they burned effigies of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Winnie Harlow for Women's Abortion Rights in Gucci Uterus Dress for Vogue Greece

Winnie Harlow Channels Her Greek Goddess Heritage Wearing Gucci Cruise

Winnie Harlow covers the February 2020 issue of Vogue Greece in Greek-goddess fashion inspiration from Gucci Cruise 2020 collection. Vasilis Kekatos captures Winnie with styling by Nicholas Georgiou.

Gucci’s Cruise Collection 2020 debuted in Rome at the Capitolini Museums, not far away from the Vatican. Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele says he was inspired by the '70s culture  from which the movement for reproductive rights emerged.

The words ‘Brave New World’ comes from a dystopian novel by English author Aldous Huxley, published in a futuristic world state. The novel imagines a futuristic world inhabited by genetically-modified citizens and an intelligence-based social hierarchy. The novel envisions major advancements in reproductive technology, psychological manipulation and classical conditioning that allow a single people to have massive impact on large populations of people. “It was a historical moment when women — finally — rejected all the constraints that were imposed in the previous centuries and they became free,” Michele explained. Winnie wears the “My Body, My Choice” uterus dress on the Vogue Greece cover

AOC notes, realistically, that men in particular have fought worldwide — with plenty of support from conservative women — to deny women the right to control our bodies, In fact, under the Trump Administration, women’s rights to control our reproductive health is under a total assault.

Cate Blanchett Will Play Phyllis Schlafly In Nine-Part Series On FX 'Mrs. America'

Star actor Cate Blanchett is set to play the indefatigable anti-ERA activist Phyllis Schlafly. It remains one of the most astounding realities of modern life that one American constitutional lawyer. born in St. Louis, Missouri with a law degree from Washington University, a large family and conservative husband, hit the road and brought the Equal Rights Amendment to a grinding halt.

Arguing for traditional roles for women in American society, the self-described activist housewife Schlafly went to battle against Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Shirley Chisholm, Bella Abzug and Jill Ruckelhaus. And she beat them.

Cate Blanchett is executive producing ‘Mrs. America’, in the upcoming limited nine-episodes series for FX, which is written and narrated through the lens of Schlafly’s feminist opponents. ‘Mrs. America’ is being written by Dahvi Waller, the Emmy-winning writer and producer of ‘Mad Men’, another show deeply rooted in evolving gender dyhamics in 20th century America.

"I am extremely excited about delving into the material as there couldn’t be a more appropriate time to peel back the layers of this recent period of history, which couldn’t be more relevant today," Blanchett said in a statement.
